Are you a self-motivated individual with experience in administering the legislative and administrative requirements of the Freedom of Information and the Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) If so, do not miss this great opportunity to join a small team of professionals with corporate responsibility to apply FIPPA for the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry.As part of the Mapping and Information Resources Branch, the Information Management Section is a dynamic, inclusive section made up of three collaborative units that provide Information Management (IM) support to ensure that the ministrys data, information and application assets are managed in accordance with relevant legislation and OPS policies. This position is in the Information and Privacy Unit, which is a small team (one coordinator and eight staff) that process Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, provide expertise on access to information, privacy, and protecting personal information, and coordinate responses to privacy breaches for the ministry.At IMS, we recognize that flexibility is vital. You will:
  • Provide advice, direction, guidance and recommendations regarding interpretation and application of FIPPA, including principles and requirements related to access and privacy matters.
  • Coordinate, analyse and draft responses to access requests in accordance with FIPPA.
  • Provide support and assistance in achieving ministry compliance with FIPPA.
  • Participate in the development of training and communications related to access and privacy.
How do I qualifyTechnical knowledge and skills with relevant legislation:
  • You have knowledge of and the ability to interpret FIPPA, regulations, principles, guidelines, directives, procedures including Information and Privacy Commissioner/Ontario decisions, guidelines and best practices.
  • You can effectively provide advice and recommendations, analyze records for possible disclosure, and conduct analysis of initiatives involving personal information.
Analytical and Research Skills:
  • You have well developed analytical skills to evaluate material/proposals, identify and apply relevant factors in determining appropriate access and/or privacy advice, anticipating risks and impacts.
  • You have research skills to identify factors relevant to requests for advice or direction, and to determine the proper application of exemptions/exclusions under FIPPA.
Communication and Relationship Management Skills:
  • You have demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills to discuss and provide information and advice to all levels of staff.
  • You have well-developed written communications skills to exchange information, prepare briefing and training materials.
  • You have the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a confidential work setting.
  • You have customer service and conflict resolution skills to work in a consultative manner and build effective working relationships.
  • You have tact and diplomacy when dealing with sensitive issues.
Coordination and Organizational Skills:
  • You have coordination and organizational skills to manage your own priorities and meet legislated time lines.
  • You have the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a confidential work setting.
Recordkeeping and Decision Making Skills:
  • You have the demonstrated ability to maintain detailed records that are necessary to support ministry position during inquiry.
  • You have proficiency with computer technology to track and process requests, prepare reports and conduct research.
