  • provide expert advice, analysis and support to Forest Industry Division and Regional Operations Division staff
  • act as the regions liaison with the forest industry on matters related to forest resource supply/demand, forest industry issue management, mill construction, expansion or closure and the Ministrys business arrangements
How do I qualifyMandatory requirements:
  • You must possess a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) designation from the Ontario Professional Foresters Association or have the ability to transfer designation from out-of-province and be able to practise professional forestry without professional supervision.
  • You must have a valid class G drivers licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid drivers licence upon being hired.
Technical expertise:
  • sound knowledge of Ontarios forest industry, Ontarios wood supplies and related business and wood disposition practices
  • experience working with forest resource management practices, including forest management planning
  • ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation, policies and procedures applicable to the forest industry (i.e. Crown Forest Sustainability Act)
Interpersonal and communication skills:
  • proven interpersonal and communication skills to effectively present ideas and issues and to obtain cooperation from others
  • ability to prepare various briefing notes, project reports and correspondence
  • demonstrated ability to influence and achieve results through others
  • demonstrated negotiation and facilitation skills in order to lead reviews of forest company business plans and competitive processes
  • ability to liaise with internal and external clients and participate in public forums
Analytical skills:
  • ability to analyze and maintain wood supply/demand information, matrixes and summaries
  • ability to conduct monitoring and evaluation of the economic health of the forest industry
  • well-developed strategic thinking, innovation and project management skills to participate on special cross-region task teams, projects and policy development
