Job Description

Swish Maintenance Limited is a leading national distributor of cleaning products and solutions to institutional, maintenance and facility professionals. Since 1956 Swish has expanded to currently include more than 16 locations across Canada and into the United States. As a proud Canadian family-owned and operated company, we are looking for an experienced and dynamic individual to join our team as Manager of Accounting.This is a temporary opportunity for 15 months, with the possibility of a permanent position.Opportunity OverviewReporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Manager of Accounting is responsible for the delivery of financial reporting, managing accounting processes and working closely with staff in areas of Accounts Payable, Cash Receipts, Inventory Control and Reception. This role will work closely with the Chief Financial Officer and other members of the Finance team and has opportunity for growth.Location - Peterborough, ONKey Responsibilities

  • Responsible for month end closing including, but not limited to the following:
  • Capital Asset Tracking: track additions, disposals, and depreciations
  • Prepaid Expense Tracking: track additions, monthly expense entry, and documentation
  • Maintenance and analysis of standard entries
  • Prepaid Dispenser Tracking: additions, amortizations posting
  • Calculating and processing Sales Taxes on a monthly and quarterly basis
  • Prepare and track accrued liabilities
  • Reconciliation of intercompany accounts
  • Responsible for the analysis of the financial statements.
  • Responsible for company financial audits and preparation of year-end activities.
  • Process external and intercompany transactions and reconcile balances including EFT’s.
  • Perform general accounting responsibilities including but not limited to general ledger, banking, accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll postings.
  • Responsible for preparation of general ledger adjustments for all branch and company operations.
  • Prepare accounting estimates, accruals, etc.
  • Collaborate with inventory control on various inventory reviews and monthly reports.
  • Daily and monthly cash flow management and reporting.
  • Responsible for ensuring timely payment of Government remittances, EHT and WSIB and other government compliance requirements.
  • Bank account management, cash application and reconciliation.
  • Prepare for and assist with all external auditors.
  • Prepare ad-hoc reporting as requested.
  • Work closely with the accounts payable department. Ensure timely processing of employee expense claims, km reimbursements, vendor payments (ensuring maximum QPDs) and resolution of all AP matters.
  • Identify, monitor and resolve issues affecting non-payment of vendor invoices.
  • Provide guidance and expertise toward improving financial systems and processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Experience and Skills
  • Accounting designation (C.P.A-CA, CMA, CGA) would be considered an asset, but is not required
  • 5+ years of experience with accounting, financial analysis and operations work
  • 5+ years of experience and proficiency in financial statement preparation and analysis including interpreting financial information
  • Must have experience with computerized financial systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Strong prioritizing skills and can easily manage multiple projects
  • Must be self-motivated, flexible, organized and possess good time management skills
  • Proven ability to work independently in a demanding, fast paced, constantly changing
