Joining our team means embracing and living these values every day. It means making a difference in the lives of the hundreds of thousands of patients we serve every year. Our regional hospital is located in Peterborough, Ontario, a 90-minute drive northeast of Toronto. With a capacity of 494 beds and more than 3000 healthcare professionals, staff and volunteers, PRHC has one of the busiest emergency departments in Ontario and offers an extensive range of services, including specialized programs in renal, stroke, cardiac, cancer care, mental health and vascular surgery, with many opportunities in a variety of areas. At PRHC, we value the ongoing learning and development of our people. When you decide to join PRHC, you are immediately eligible to apply to our education reimbursement fund for additional learning you decide to pursue. As a member of the PRHC team, you will be part of an exceptional working environment that provides a forum to share knowledge, to learn, to develop talents, relationships and careers. You will also be part of a culture that recognizes and rewards the achievements of its people and supports staff health and wellness. Finally, you will work at a hospital that is dedicated to ensuring our team has the resources they need. To this end, we are currently in the process of rolling out a regional clinical information system (EPIC) in partnership with six other hospital organizations to ensure we are positioned to provide the best possible care and support for our patients and their families. Life in Peterborough RNs at PRHC enjoy competitive pay (the same rate you would receive in the GTA!) but also enjoy a substantially lower cost of living and a naturally beautiful place to live. Peterborough is known as the gateway to Kawartha cottage country and relocating here will allow you to enjoy a wonderful work-life balance, with access to beautiful parks, trails and the Trent-Severn Waterway. We have a lively, creative downtown core, as well as quick access to the GTA Highway 407 east extension. Some of our staff enjoy biking to work, others use their days off to paddleboard, canoe, or take a short drive to a lake. As an RN at PRHC you play an integral part in helping the members of our community attain and maintain the highest level of health possible. As an RN, no day is the same and you will be responsible for providing comprehensive care autonomously to patients - some with predictable outcomes and others with unpredictable outcomes, who may or may not be clinically stable. This can be challenging, but it is also rewarding. At PRHC, you will have the support you need from our team of Charge Nurses, Clinical Managers, and Professional Practice team to be confident and capable in your ability to provide exceptional care.If you are ready to contribute to PRHC achieving our vision of exceeding the expectations of our patients and families every day, we want to hear from you! Who You Are:
  • You pride yourself on practicing in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario Professional Standards and providing high-quality care to patients and support for their families
  • You are highly collaborative and have excellent interpersonal skills to effectively work well with patients, families, staff, physicians and the interprofessional care team
  • You are also able to work independently when needed
  • We love people who want to continue to learn and develop: if you have evidence of continuing education, you’ll be a great fit for our team
  • You are organized and reliable with a strong work ethic
  • You excel at both verbal and written communication with your peers and with patients and their families
What You’ll Bring:
  • A current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario, or eligibility to obtain a permanent or temporary certificate of competence
  • A current Basic Life Support (BLS) course
  • Medical or surgical nursing experience is preferred
  • A Medical/Surgical Certificate and/or nursing skills associated with medical units is desired
  • Specialty training in Coronary Care 1 or Gerontology would also be an asset
  • Excellent assessment skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of specific diagnoses and pathologies associated with Medical Units
  • The ability to effectively use MS Office and other Clinical Information Systems (ideally EPIC)
  • Current Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification or equivalent would be a definite asset
