DESCRIPTION:Position: Surgical Suite AssistantDepartment: SPDPosition Status: Part-TimeUnion: CUPENumber of Positions: 1HOURS OF WORK:Please note that the hours of work are approximate and are schedules are subject to change depending on operational needs. PRHC supports and encourages you to pursue whatever path you choose.WHAT YOU’LL DO:Responsible for reprocessing, sterilization and/or distribution of medical/surgical supplies, both sterile and non-sterile, to all departments. Staff are required to learn and work through routines including Decontamination, Set-up, O.R. Steris V PRO, Case Carts, Respiratory, Sterilization/Collection/Distribution, Extra Duties, Days, Evenings & Midnight Shifts. Responsible for stocking, picking, cleaning and maintaining all equipment and supplies, and assisting with portering of patients to assist in the smooth functioning of the Operating Room, PACU and SPD. For a detailed description of each of these routines, please refer to the work routines section in the SPD/OR/PACU Department manual.WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • CSAO (Central Service Association of Ontario) or Sterile Processing Certificate required.
  • Recertification within the last 2 years, unless currently working in a Sterile Processing department as a Surgical Suite Assistant.
  • 1 year recent experience in the Sterile Processing Department preferred.
  • Knowledge of decontamination, disinfection and sterile technique procedures, medical/surgical supplies and equipment would be an asset.

  • Good knowledge of supply procurement.

  • Good time management and organizational skills to prioritize tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently and use good judgement, and as a team member.
  • Demonstrated ability to read/understand and practice hospital/departmental safety responsibilities and precautions (eg. Universal precautions and WHMIS).
  • This position involves assisting in moving, positioning and holding patients for extended time periods and moving heavy equipment.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Available to work all shifts including weekends and stat holidays.
  • Maintains a positive attendance record.
