Job Description

  • design, develop, and deliver in-person and online compliance and enforcement training for new and experienced provincial park wardens
  • provide consultation and expert advice on training matters, policy development and investigations
  • support program delivery by assisting with field level enforcement, investigations, and conducting program audits
How do I qualifyMandatory
  • You must have a valid class G drivers licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid drivers licence upon being hired.
  • You have the ability to be designated as a Park Warden and meet the ministry certification criteria and standards in the use of force.
Technical knowledge:
  • thorough knowledge of Ontario Parks related legislation (e.g. Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act, 2006, Liquor Licence Act, Cannabis Control Act, 2017, Highway Traffic Act, Trespass to Property Act, etc.) and other related legislation (e.g. Criminal Code, Constitution Act, 1982, Provincial Offences Act, Youth Criminal Justice Act, etc.)
  • thorough knowledge of the theories, principles and practices associated with compliance, enforcement and natural resource programs and management
  • thorough knowledge of law enforcement techniques and procedures (e.g. statement taking, court procedures, etc.)
  • knowledge of occupational health and safety, accommodation and accessibility legislation and requirements
Training expertise:
  • demonstrated presentation skills and the principles and theories of adult learning and education to plan, develop, deliver and evaluate training programs
  • extensive knowledge of specialized training techniques (e.g. scenario-based training) to participate in the design and delivery of training that will ensure staff are trained to handle themselves in a safe and professional manner
Communication skills:
  • advanced communication skills to present, discuss and explain highly complex information for learners in areas of subject expertise where content accuracy and understanding is critical to performance and liability avoidance
  • written communication skills to prepare lesson plans, reports, manuals and training policies and correspond with internal and external clients
  • ability to use and teach conflict avoidance techniques to deal with hostile and irate person encounters in the field
Interpersonal skills:
  • interpersonal skills, tact and professionalism to deal sensitively with student concerns regarding classroom presentations, to motivate students and to resolve conflicting views with students and other training staff
  • negotiation, facilitation and listening skills to develop optimum training packages and approaches by considering and evaluating often differing points of view of officers, senior management and the public
Analytical skills:
  • research, analytical and evaluation skills to address training requirements by identifying program issues/participant needs and developing innovative solutions and programs when considering all training and delivery techniques and options available
  • ability to make recommendations to senior management concerning risk and liability to the Crown and its employees associated with training requirements and delivery approaches
Computer proficiency:
  • proficiency using common office productivity software, such as word processing, email, spreadsheets and presentation applications, also, to use scanners, printers and audio-visual equipment to prepare and deliver lesson plans, document training records, prepare reports, manuals and share training information/ideas
