Are you a proven leader who demonstrates superior project coordination, communication, and relationship building skills If so, consider this opportunity!The Southern Region is hiring two Regional Planning Coordinators within its Land Use Planning and Strategic Issues Section (LUPSI). LUPSI is the lead for land use planning and, issues management within Southern Region, Regional Operations Division (ROD). ROD is responsible for the implementation and delivery of provincial land use and resource management policy and programs on local and regional levels. Southern Region has a complex planning environment, with the majority of Ontarios population in a predominantly privately-owned landscape, diverse natural resources and significant development pressures., If you are interested in enhancing your career within the planning discipline and contributing to a collaborative team, This challenging and rewarding opportunity may be for you. Please Note: This position is located at 300 Water Street in Peterborough, however, alternate workarrangements may be available, based on operational feasibility.What can I expect to do in this roleAs the Regional Planning Coordinator, you will:
  • provide representation, leadership and coordination of land use planning and resource management initiatives and projects
  • assume a key leadership role with planners, to identify policy and program implementation related issues and to develop recommendations for action
  • monitor and evaluate activities, recommend actions and requirements to meet plans and schedules
  • build and maintain strong and effective liaison within field offices, various ministries, agencies, Indigenous peoples and stakeholders to develop strategies and achieve program results
  • contribute to the development of communications/training plans/materials for Municipal, Crown land and resource management planning
How do I qualifyLeadership and project management skills:
  • ability to provide leadership, guidance and direction to program staff and planning teams
  • ability to plan, develop, assign, coordinate and monitor work plans
  • proven project management skills including planning, budgeting and time management
  • proven issues management skills
Communication and Interpersonal skills:
  • advanced oral and written communication skills
  • demonstrated facilitation, mediation and conflict resolution skills
  • ability to use tact, discretion and motivation to encourage open communication
  • proven advisory and consultation skills to provide expertise to senior management and to act as the primary contact for land use and resource management planning issues
Analytical and strategic thinking skills:
  • proven experience interpreting, applying and ensuring planning decisions are compliant with relevant legislation, policy and directives such as Public Lands Act, Guide to Crown Land Use Planning, Planning Act, Provincial Policy Statement, Environmental Assessment (EA) Act and Resource Stewardship Facility Development Class EA.
  • ability to apply analytical skills and creativity to problem solve, identify issues, rationale and develop options and recommendations to inform project plans and support decision making
Technical expertise:
  • awareness of the government and ministry interests in land use planning and resource management, within the context of Ontarios overall development needs
  • demonstrated knowledge in land use and resource management planning, and related legislation, policies, theories and practices
  • knowledge of, and expertise in applying theories and practices of ecosystem based management to aquatic and terrestrial resources
