  • coordinate and conduct research, analysis and environmental scanning to identify and support sustainable water resource management including of the Great Lakes
  • work in collaboration with governmental and non-governmental agencies at the local, provincial and federal level
  • monitor, evaluate and develop strategies, policies, agreements, and legislation that support sustainable water resource management objectives
  • provide advice on effective integration of new and emerging water resource and watershed management policies and programs
  • represent water resource and/or water-related public safety interests on ministry working groups and inter-agency teams
How do I qualifyPolicy development knowledge:
  • You have demonstrated ability to apply policy development and strategic planning techniques and procedures.
  • You have applied knowledge of technological, social, economic, environmental and political trends and environmental scanning techniques, in order to develop effective strategies, policies, agreements, programs, guidelines and legislation.
Technical knowledge:
  • You have demonstrated knowledge of natural resource management, water resource and watershed management principles, management practices and planning approaches (such as land-use or water management planning).
  • You have proven knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply existing water related legislation, policies, strategies, and agreements.
  • You have the ability to provide program leadership as it relates to ecosystem, natural resource, water resource and watershed management and water related natural hazard management in support of provincial and corporate ministry directions.
  • You have knowledge of data and information analysis and interpretation techniques and software such as word processing, spreadsheets, water resource databases, presentation and project management tools.
Analytical and problem-solving skills:
  • You have demonstrated research, analytical and evaluation skills for planning, evaluating and recommending policies and programs.
  • You have the proven ability to use creative thinking and problem-solving skills when creating and exploring policy options and making recommendations.
Communication and interpersonal skills:
  • You have demonstrated liaison, facilitation, networking and communications skills in order to consult and negotiate with local, provincial and federal levels of government and non-government agencies, including industry, academia, researchers and stakeholders.
  • You have presentation skills to illustrate policy options to staff, project team members, managers and senior managers.
  • You have effective writing skills to prepare summaries of research and findings, develop reports and briefing materials on recommended policy options and implementation strategies.
Project management skills:
  • You have the ability to identify and validate partnership opportunities, stimulate projects and establish priorities.
  • You have proven project management and work planning skills and consistent capacity to produce high quality results.
  • You have the demonstrated ability to lead several simultaneous projects and meet deadlines.
