Job Description

What can I expect to do in this roleIn this role, you will:
  • provide expert advice in the development of evidence-based provincial water and water related resource management strategies and policies, with a particular focus on the management of flooding, erosion, and other water-related natural hazards
  • coordinate and conduct research
  • provide advice to resolve natural hazards and water management issues
  • provide advice regarding the application of Ontarios Natural Hazard Technical Guides
  • represent the provincial or ministry interests on committees and liaise with clients to foster partnerships
How do I qualifyTechnical expertise:
  • You have knowledge of water related legislation (e.g. Conservation Authorities Act, Lakes and Rivers
Improvement Act, Provincial Planning Act, Municipal Act) policies (e.g., Provincial Policy Statement, Ontarios Natural Hazard Technical Guides), programs (e.g. Emergency Management, Ontario Low Water Response Program, Flood Forecasting and Warning Program, etc.).
  • You can address water management issues and support sustainable water management practices.
  • You have expert knowledge of scientific theories, principles and practices related to water resource management and hydrological concepts, as well as management practices and planning approaches.
  • You have knowledge of social, economic, environmental and political trends and environmental scanning techniques.
Interpersonal and communication skills:
  • You have proven communication skills, judgement, tact and diplomacy to gather and exchange information and explain initiatives.
  • You have consultation skills to work with stakeholders (e.g. Indigenous communities, municipalities, conservation authorities, other ministries etc.).
  • You have written communication skills to prepare research summaries, develop reports and communication strategies.
Analytical skills:
  • You have proven data collection, analysis and interpretation skills in addition to analytical problem-solving skills, specifically related to water resource science and hydrology
  • You can apply data and information analysis techniques to evaluate policy and program options and make recommendations.
  • You can assess issues and provide recommended approaches to resolution.
Project management and leadership skills:
  • You have project management experience and team leadership skills to provide effective input into water-related policy and strategic initiatives in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
Computer proficiency:
  • You are proficient with software such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, and project management tools to present and prepare your own materials.
