Please note that only one position can be filled in each location. Work location will be determined by the successful candidates current place of residence, the runner up will receive an offer of the remaining position/location.What can I expect to do in this roleIn this role, you will:

• collaborate as part of a provincial wildlife monitoring team to develop, implement and review provincial wildlife monitoring programs, and provide leadership to a regional team of biologists and technicians involved in wildlife monitoring
• participate in the implementation of the provincial Integrated Science Action Plan (ISAP) as it relates to monitoring of terrestrial ecosystems
• identify the best existing wildlife population science, knowledge, information, and technologies that can help meet the needs of resource management practitioners
• liaise with resource management practitioners, researchers and specialists to support the transfer of existing science, knowledge and information related to provincial wildlife monitoring programs
• develop and refine methodologies, standards, indices and tools related to the assessment and monitoring of wildlife populations and , terrestrial ecosystems
• lead and/or participate on project/task teams and other forums related to terrestrial ecosystems
• review and synthesize information from scientific and resource management literature

How do I qualifyMandatory requirements:

• You must have a valid class G drivers licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid drivers licence upon being hired.

Technical expertise:

• You have demonstrated knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of wildlife ecology, monitoring, physiology, behavior and management, and terrestrial ecosystem classification, productivity and management.
• You have demonstrated experience conducting field work related to wildlife, terrestrial ecosystems, and/or forestry.
• You have the ability to interpret and apply resource management legislation, regulations, policies and guidelines (e.g. Environmental Bill of Rights, Environmental Assessment Act, Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, Crown Forest Sustainability Act, Far North Act, Provincial and Federal Endangered Species legislation, and the Federal Migratory Birds Convention Act).
• You have demonstrated experience applying scientific methods, including developing and implementing statistically-based sampling designs.

Computer skills:

• You have demonstrated experience with computer software including word processing, spreadsheets, relational databases, and statistical analysis software to access and analyze information, prepare scientific reports, publications and presentations.
• You have knowledge and experience working with large datasets and relational databases.
• You have demonstrated experience using GIS software to address natural resource challenges, and have used GIS software to create, query, and manipulate spatial data.

Communication and interpersonal skills:

• You have proven communication skills to deliver project and program information to managers, technical staff, and public audiences.
• You have demonstrated experience writing scientific publications such as technical reports, peer-reviewed publications, and project reports.
• You have strong interpersonal and consultative skills to facilitate cooperation between program staff, researchers, clients and partners.

Project management skills:

• You have project management and organizational skills to determine client needs by leading working groups, interviewing staff and researching available scientific/technical information to meet those needs.

Analytical and problem-solving skills:

• You have analytical and problem-solving skills to clarify problems, identify and evaluate options, and recommend scientifically sound approaches to address natural resource monitoring and management issues.
• You have demonstrated experience applying and interpreting inferential statistics related to wildlife, terrestrial ecosystems, or forestry.
