King Freight Lines Ltd. is searching for an ambitious, hands-on leader to drive organizational success as they continue to grow and expand. Supporting the company’s end-to-end operations, the General Manager will be accountable for driving excellence and maintaining industry superiority as it relates to profitability, operational standards, people development, and customer experience. Family Owned and Operated In 1975, company president, Roland (Rollie) MacDonald, formed MacDonald’s Excavating. With progressive growth into the transportation industry over the following decade, the company was renamed King Freight Lines Limited in 1986 to better reflect the now dominant transportation side of the business. Over 40 years later, King Freight Lines, although experiencing continued growth over the years, remains a family-owned and operated business, providing fleet operations throughout Canada and the United States. Part of the Family The General Manager will be engaged in, and driven to enhance all aspects of the company, utilizing their extensive experience in all facets of transportation operations to drive organizational success. As a trusted addition and organizational leader, the successful candidate will work side by side with the ownership team to build business strategies, while ensuring that the daily business functions move forward, in line with both short and long-term objectives. Responsibilities Reporting to the Ownership group, the General Manager will provide direction to the activities of employees and effectively manage the day-to-day functions to reach established goals, set in consultation with the Board. The General Manager will seize opportunities to improve revenue, enhance customer experience, and continuously improve operations, all the while providing leadership and support to employees in all departments. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: · Plan and manage all aspects of the company’s operations to effectively utilize the forecast, optimize manpower, equipment and other resources, while supporting the Board of Directors in exercising their oversight responsibilities. · Review daily/weekly/monthly delivery plans utilizing equipment, manpower, and other resources to ensure an effective, efficient operation while maintaining or increasing customer service levels · Actively develop an overall understanding of market trends to determine consumer demand, potential sales volumes, and effect of competitors’ operations on sales, while monitoring overall company performance (including financial metrics and customer satisfaction) · Manage existing customer accounts, while working to identify existing customer growth opportunities and foster strong relationships with potential customers · Demonstrate leadership by communicating the strategic plan and goals of the organization, while engaging with employees in achieving the objectives of the business and ensuring all Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are set, monitored, and adhered to · Mentor and manage staff by ensuring that all policies and procedures are met and adhered to; quality levels are met on all jobs; budgets are achieved; performance is managed and documented · Collaborate throughout the organization to ensure effective resource/knowledge sharing, workload balancing, and to further develop the best customer service experience to meet the needs of clients, while also ensuring necessary employee training is provided · Foster a well-rounded company culture to manage a high level of employee engagement and low turnover of staff · Adhere to and monitor compliance of all company policies, procedures, safety policies and business ethics · Ensure all company owned equipment is maintained and serviced as per guidelines · Oversee and ensure the overall health and safety of the workforce, and that safety requirements are adhered to at all times Requirementsamp; Skills · Significant (preferably 10+ years) experience in progressively senior leadership roles · Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, or similar field of study, or an equivalent combination of training and experience · Must have experience in the transportation industry, ideally with a fleet of a least 100 tractors and 225 trailers · Must have experience operating in Canada and the USA and be able to legally work in both countries as operational demands require · Experience working within a family owned and operated company, considered an asset · Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate and willingness to be hands-on with tasks at all levels of the business · Experience developing and executing comprehensive and robust business plans and strategies Success in this role requires a General Manager who has operated in various facets of the trucking operations, including dispatch within Canada and the USA, and has experience in regular reporting and accounting, general administration and Occupational Health and Safety program administration.
