It is comprised of specialized teams of Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Physicians, Nurses, Social Workers, Health Promoters, Recreation Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Secretaries, and other members of the allied health and support team. The Advanced Practice Leader (APL) will be part of the Provincial Center for Training, Education, and Learning (PCTEL) and will report to the Provincial Clinical Leader and Manager of Training and Education.This position has a special focus on training mental health clinicians within the MHA Program to provide culturally responsive assessment and psychotherapy to people from racialized and other marginalized populations. As such, the APL will possess attributes, values, knowledge, and skills that demonstrate an understanding of equity and a commitment to diversity. They will have experience engaging across difference, articulating bias, and training clinicians in cultural humility and responsiveness. They will be knowledgeable about race-related stress and the experiences of people who are Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Colour. Experience with other historically, persistently, or systematically marginalized groups is also an asset.The APL will use 0.2 FTE for clinical work and will attend PCTEL team meetings. They will have training and experience delivering evidence-based interventions for a range of disorders, including mood, anxiety, substance use, and trauma-related disorders. Certification in cognitive-behavioural therapy is an asset. Content expertise in program development and evaluation, group therapy, and adult learning are required.The focus of this role is on training clinicians to provide culturally responsive care to people from racialized populations; as such, a person who is Black, Indigenous, and/or a Person of Colour would be preferred for this position.Qualifications

  • PhD or PsyD in Clinical Psychology
  • Registered, or eligible to be registered/licensed with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of formal training & clinical experience in adult mental health & addictions, including two (2) years’ experience providing clinical consultation and supervision for mental health problems, including group-based supervision, live supervision, and case consultation. Have received supervision/consultation regarding own supervision and consultation skills.
  • Skills and experience providing identity-affirming, racially- and culturally- sensitive and responsive assessment and psychotherapy
  • Skills and experience in promoting learning cultures that emphasize anti-racist and intersectional values, analysis, and actions, clinical humility, and the responsible use of power and privilege.
  • Training and experience in the provision of cognitive and behavioural interventions for a range of mental health disorders (e.g., behavioural activation, cognitive therapy for depression, protocol-based treatments for anxiety disorders, prolonged exposure, cognitive processing therapy, exposure and response prevention). Certification in cognitive-behavioural therapy is an asset.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and experience providing training and consultation in mental health and addictions
  • Experience with program evaluation and research
  • Knowledge of and experience with the DSM-5 diagnostic classification system.
