The successful candidate will work closely with Strait Richmond Hospital (SRH) that serves the health care needs of the residents of communities in Richmond County and the southern portion of Inverness County. SRH opened its doors to patients in 1980. Located in Evanston, SRH is located 80 kilometers from St. Martha’s Regional Hospital. The facility has 15 medicine beds and five restorative care beds that provides inpatient, outpatient, and satellite care. The site also houses a number of other interdisciplinary services:

  • community based rehabilitation centre
  • diabetes education
  • diagnostic imaging
  • dietitian
  • emergency department
  • foot care clinic
  • hemodialysis
  • laboratory services
  • mental health & addictions services
  • occupational therapy
  • palliative care
  • physiotherapy
  • social work
The facility also has a number of visiting specialists:
  • cardiology
  • nephrology
  • ophthalmology
  • palliative care
Responsibilities
  • Duties include full scope of practice as a family physician providing care to patients within the eastern zone and participating in call
  • the physician will be responsible to the Zone Department Head of Family Practice for their professional responsibilities and quality of practice
  • and will operate within the Medical Staff Bylaws of the Nova Scotia Health Authority
  • Nursing home coverage and inpatient care required (participating in the CHIP program)
  • Provide emergency room coverage, if desired

Qualifications
  • all applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
  • all applicants must be eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)
  • membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
  • emergency medicine experience considered an asset
