Job Description

The Camp Counsellor “Counsellor” - Inclusion is responsible to assist in the planning, delivery and supervision of the Camp programs with a focus on participants with identified needs or behavioural considerations; ensuring compliance with HIGH FIVE® standards, the Health and Safety Regulations; and Municipal Policies and Procedures.Benefits and Perks

Compensation and Work Term$16.80 to $18.23 per hourMay to AugustQualifications
  • High school diploma preferred, however high school students will be considered based on maturity, skills and experience.
  • Standard First Aid, CPR “C” with AED or willing to obtain.
  • Experience working with children and youth.
  • HIGH FIVE ®: Principles of Healthy Child Development or willing to obtain.
  • Must be 18 years of age by July 1, 2024.
  • Valid and satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Able to commit to the full term of employment and be available Monday to Friday From 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Responsibilities
  • Provide input on development of Camp programs; organize and implement Camp programs and assist in the supervision of all activities. Work in collaboration with all camp staff to plan, organize and implement camp programs and supervision of all activities with a focus on participants with identified needs and behavioural considerations.
  • Act as a leader within camp; accountable to the Senior Team Lead for all activities; ensuring the safety and participation of children.
  • Research information on working with identified needs and behavioural considerations. Broaden understanding and provide applicable assistance.
  • Provide feedback to Inclusion Leader, Senior Team Lead and/or Recreation Program Coordinator regarding program and participant integration.
  • Minimize inappropriate behaviour using learned techniques and acquired skills.
  • Develop individualized tools and management strategies for identified program participants, involving consultation with parents/caregivers, community organizations.
  • Evaluate and access the needs of participants based on written and verbal information provided to ensure the necessary program adaptations and modifications are implemented.
  • Interact with the Camp participants in a positive and professional manner in the delivery of the program; incorporate the principles of HIGH FIVE ® regarding healthy child development.
  • Comply with the Child Care Legislation and Child Abuse Policies as outlined at staff training.
  • Advise the Senior Team Lead, Recreation Program Coordinator of any problems related to equipment, programs or public inquiries and shall report any unacceptable behaviour to the Recreation Program Coordinator and/or Inclusion or Senior Team Lead.
  • Adhere to high standards of ethical behaviour and demonstrate their understanding that their personal actions impact the public’s perception of the Municipality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Recreation Program Coordinator or designate.
