  • Must be able to travel and work in the field in remote locations as required
  • Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position which may include conducting field work through rough terrain in adverse weather conditions
  • Must be willing and able to work evenings, weekends and Holidays as required
Qualifications:Essential:
  • Post secondary degree/certification in Forestry or related field of study with work experience in field forestry operations or an equivalent combination of other resource related education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of photogrammetric principle and experience with Forest Resource Inventory processes, plant community relationships (ecosites) as well as knowledge of technologies used to develop and maintain inventory products.
  • Experience with Geographic Information System (GIS) and related applications such as ArcGIS Online (AGOL). Remote Sensing and LiDAR applications.
  • Demonstrated experience working to acquire natural resource inventory products including field based data collection and the technologies and techniques to create inventory products.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate and maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholders such as government, non-government, industry, and resource users, as well as the public.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to work on several projects simultaneously in order to meet strict deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate information and explain key elements to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to write various documents and reports for decision makers and stakeholders.
  • Strong problem solving, analytical skills and decision making skills with the ability to synthesize large amounts of technical information.
Desired:
  • Contract management experience, including experience developing contracts, supporting materials and conducting compliance audits.
  • Financial management experience, such as: preparing forecasting, maintaining a budget and/or managing cash flow.
  • Experience working with Indigenous people and communities.
Duties:Reporting directly to the Inventory and Analysis Section Manager. The position is responsible to lead and manage multi-project teams of technical and professional staff, develop partnerships and collaborative agreements with clients, ensure effective access and exchange of inventory classification protocols and standards, conduct forest land inventories, collect and compile resource data for Branch/Department. This role is responsible for the planning, design and implementation of Forestry and Peatlands resource inventories including the development and delivery of forest vegetation inventory projects, tracking forest depletion activities on crown land and updating existing database(s) using available technologies such as satellite imagery, aerial photography and photointerpretation, LiDAR. The incumbent is also responsible to manage GIS processes for data capture, storage, analysis and reporting related to the provincial forest inventory, associated timber and non-timber-values database(s).
