Further information is available atwww.mcicoach.com.POSITION SUMMARYAs Engineering Lead - Functional Safety, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and oversight to on-going vehicle design and product development as it pertains to the on-going implementation and establishment of vehicle functional safety best practices within the New Flyer and MCI business units. Reporting to the Chief Engineering Manager of Regulatory Compliance and Functional Safety, you will provide support to the establishment of key deliverables for the creation of our initial functional safety roadmap and future on-going maintenance of procedures and processes that will ultimately help to develop and implement our vehicle functional safety to be in line with ISO 26262 standards as well as other functional safety features as needed and identified for both internal and external customer requirements.WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Support Engineering activities to ensure new product lines are being developed and tested to comply to established NFI Group functional safety processes/procedures.
  • Assist Engineering teams in formulating plans, item definitions and requirements to support vehicle functional safety initiatives.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert leading the development of project-based functional safety requirements and implements vehicle safety case plans.
  • Undertake functional safety activities in the development phases of the product lifecycle and the Engineering Product Development process.
  • Collaborate with engineering design teams to deliver functional safety work products while providing assistance, guidance, and support to ensure they are actioned.
  • Lead maintenance of the functional safety management system on behalf of Engineering and support similar activities across our various departments.
  • Work with Chief Engineering Manager-Regulatory and Functional Safety to initiate and conduct production vehicle functional safety audits.
  • Review compliance of functional safety roadmap for alignment with customersamp; supplier management programs.
  • Provide training/coaching for functional safety processes, procedures and practices.
  • Coordinate cross-functional reviews for resolution of functional safety issues.
  • Work with sales team to ensure functional safety product integrity is maintained for customer requirements, approving new or significant contract content or update requests that may impact functional safety product risks.
  • Participate in hiring, development, monitoringamp; mentoring of employees.
  • Establish effective communication, cooperationamp; information flow.
  • Interact with vendors and customers on functional safety related issues as needed.
  • Participate in Engineeringamp; Leadership meetings to review departmental issues.
  • Develop documents and maintains meeting architecture including regular reviews while ensuring corrective actions are taken and implemented.
  • Report weekly on status including completed and outstanding work.
  • Responsible to guide development, design,amp; test of safety critical systems/controls.
  • Support establishing new engineering processes and procedures, tools and documentation material based upon implementing ISO26262 functional safety.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
  • Bachelors in Engineering (Preferred in Electrical/Software/Mechanical Engineering) or equivalent.
  • At least 5+ years of experience with functional/product knowledge in the areas of electrical/electronic systems, preferably in vehicle-based applications.
  • Demonstrated experienceamp; knowledge of ISO 26262 standards and work products.
  • Experienceamp; knowledge (but not limited) of FMEA, FMEDA, FHA, HAZOP, FTA.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with hardware and software of commercial vehicle control systems.
  • Excellent project and planning abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Ability to train others.
