To learn more about the Ministry of Environment, click here.Your OpportunityThe Ministry of Environment is seeking a highly-motivated and innovative leader to join our Forest Service team in Prince Albert as the Manager of the Forest Stewardship Unit. As a member of the management team, you will support the sustainable growth of Saskatchewan’s forest sector by leading the people and teams responsible for supporting the Forest Policy, Boreal Landscapes and Branch Performance and Licensing programs. You will ensure that these programs support a results-based, service-oriented, regulatory approach to attaining desired forest management outcomes.Your Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical teams and provide oversight of staff who develop forest policy that fosters sustainable forest management. Program responsibilities include:
    • Forest resource policy development and evaluation;
    • Forest licensing, branch safety and strategic planning;
    • Managing Saskatchewan’s participation in the Canadian Council of Forest Ministers and other forestry focused federal, provincial and territorial groups;
    • Representing forestry interests on provincial initiatives such as caribou range planning and implementation, habitat management and mitigation, protected areas, carbon and climate resilience;
    • Managing branch education initiatives and informing Saskatchewan’s approach to ecosystem based management.
  • Foster an inclusive and diverse work environment that promotes mental and physical wellbeing for our team. This includes supporting the branch health and safety system.
  • Provide forest program direction and forest management expertise to other government ministries and support senior ministry staff on forest management and policy issues.
  • Take a broad-scale view of unit programs and processes including the development and implementation of long and short-term strategies to achieve the government’s focus on efficiency, accountability, and results-based regulatory requirements.
Your Competencies and Skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, support, create and sustain a team environment that enables staff to achieve results and to develop in a professional capacity. This includes building organizational capacity at the Forest Service for the future.
  • Committed to personal and organizational safety.
  • A fundamental understanding of project management and policy development.
  • Knowledge and understanding of how to balance environmental, social, and economic values within the forest sector.
  • Knowledge and understanding of accountability processes, risk management and effective change management to lead strategic initiatives.
  • Established skills to effectively manage human resources, technology, fiscal responsibilities, and confidential information.
  • Ability to communicate complex issues clearly and credibly with widely varied audiences using two-way communication to gain others’ input and understanding.
  • Preference given to those who have an accredited degree in forestry and/or experience in the Canadian forest sector.
