2023 SWP Painter Position ExpectationsGeneral● Work is typically Monday to Friday, 8am-5pm. There is some variation in these hours due to the nature of the job(sometimes we wrap up early, sometimes a little later) but it usually ends up being around 8am-5pm Mon-Fri.● The jobs are typically about 70% exterior, 30% interior. Lots of work on ladders (10ft-30ft up).● If there is poor weather on 2+ days in one week while working on exteriors, and if an interior job can’t be substituted, you’ll be given the option to take those days off and work on Saturday & Sunday instead to stay on track for your earning goal.● You will be teamed up with one or two other painters, and the group of you will be a crew all summer.● All painters are expected to be self-motivated & independent, to set personal goals & strive for them.● Jobs start with each painter delivering 30 flyers to the neighboring houses; this is so that other people will come visit the site while you’re there and we will find more work! Make conversation when you can!● Payment is based on piecework. The harder & more efficiently you work, the more money you’ll make.● All new painters start at the salary of $18.00/piece. Raises are possible within 2 weeks of starting, and are accompanied with increased responsibility, e.g., getting paint, collecting payments, carrying ladders.● There will be a one-on-one meeting every other Friday with me! The agenda includes getting your payroll cheque, reviewing your financial goals, requesting time off, discussing any crewmate issues, and giving and receiving feedback and new ideas.● Clients have the opportunity to tip you! If you are very friendly and do an excellent job, it almost always leads to a great tip – in the past my best painters have been tipped $100 each several times!Training● If you are hired, there is a mandatory 1 hour set up meeting with me to outline your financial goals for the summer, prepare your paperwork, and prepare you for training/orientation.● Safety training is an online course (takes 2-3 hours) and must be completed before orientation.● You will need to read three 20-page booklets on SWP production and safety prior to orientation.● Orientation will be an unpaid, 8am-5pm day, in which you will learn how to paint along with all of the other new painters. It’s a fun, group event! Lunch will be provided, you’ll meet your coworkers, and be given your supplies.● There is a two-week probationary period to this job. Your first two weeks are considered to be a test of your abilities as a painter, and you must be meeting (and preferably beating) the time budgets by the end.● Throughout the summer you will be expected to attend the bi-weekly safety briefings (conducted at the jobsite) and to read the preceding safety email that is sent out Monday.Job Culture● Independence – Once you finish training, you oversee your own job sites. I will always be available to help solve an issue and/or answer questions, but for the most part you will get equipment, paint, and a sheet that gives you very clear instructions for what to do and be left to complete the project in the way you see fit!● Equality & Safety – If you’re having a hard time with your crewmate, a tough client, or if someone isn’t pulling their weight, call me! Or bring it up at our bi-weekly meeting and I’ll make sure it’s taken care of. My painters always come first & I prioritize their safety; if you ever feel unsafe on a job you are to leave right away and call me.● Financial transparency – You will know exactly what the budget is on every job before you begin working, and at your bi-weekly meeting we will review exactly how much you made on each job.Equipment● You will be given 2 paintbrushes at the start of the summer, and a new one every month if needed. They’re yours to keep and take care of. If you ruin your brushes, you will have to buy new ones yourself!● You will be given 2 SWP t-shirts as your uniform at the start of the summer to be worn at all times.● You will have to buy a watch (~$10), painter pants (~$30), and close-toed shoes if you don’t have any.● Your phone plan must have enough data for maps and sending photos (1GB minimum).Job Type: Full-timeSalary: $17.00-$20.00 per hourFlexible Language Requirement:
