As corrections professionals, we provide the safe and secure custody of adult and young offenders and deliver programs that promote public safety and reduce re-offending.We work directly with offenders, supporting positive change in their lives and work toward successful reintegration into the community.The Ministry is accepting applications for Permanent Part-Time Parental Care Workers across Saskatchewan. Parental Care Workers are positive, motivated and energetic role models that are non-judgmental and have excellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills. Parental Care Workers are leaders that embrace diversity and equality.Role of a Parental Care Worker

  • Work closely with youth who may have special needs, gender differences and various cultural and spiritual belief systems.
  • Establish, build and maintain work relationships with effective interpersonal communication (both written and verbal).
  • Work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Maintain safety, security, management and control of youth and transport youth.
  • Maintain a level of fitness to meet the requirements of a physically demanding work environment.
  • Work proficiently with various computer systems and electronic software.
Ideal CandidateBecoming a Parental Care Worker requires a combination of knowledge, skills and attributes which includes:
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system.
  • Knowledge of human growth and adolescent development and the impact of influencing factors.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Being a collaborative and supportive team player.
  • Proficiency with various computer systems or programs.
  • A commitment to ongoing learning and continuous improvement.
  • A valid Class 5 drivers licence and First Aid CPR/AED.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada at the time you apply for a position.
Physical RequirementsThe Corrections Officers Physical Abilities Test (COPAT) is a timed physical abilities test that is comprised of activities designed to reflect the physical challenges faced in a corrections environment.The COPAT is mandatory and must be successfully completed during the assessment period.COVID-19 Protocol are in place, please see facility requirements upon registration.Please register for COPATSaskatoon: University of Saskatchewan TBA February, 2022, March, 2022Regina: University of Regina, February 22, 2022 and March 15, 2022Prince Albert: Saskpolytech, February 7, 2022, March 7, 2022, March 28, 2022If you have successfully completed the COPAT or similar physical abilities tests within six months of applications, you may not need to complete the Saskatchewan COPAT.
