Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities,especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city ofVancouver and the Okanagan.SummaryReporting to Tailings Superintendent, the Tailings Supervisor, is responsible for the supervision,coordination, and effective scheduling of the workforce to meet tailings placement targets and qualitystandards, and ensure ongoing safe operation of the tailings management facility.This is a permanent full-time role on a 7x7 rotation, 12-hour day shifts, unless exceptionalcircumstances. The schedule will be determined at the time of the award.Responsibilities

  • Ensures that work is carried out in accordance with the tailings management facilities’ OMS manual,
  • Leads and coordinates the production with maintenance, and technical teams to deliver safe
production,
  • Ensures work is undertaken in compliance with mining regulations and the Mine site’s safety (lock
out and tag out, isolation), quality, and environmental standards and procedures,
  • Assists to create and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Job Hazard Assessments
(JHA) and actively participates in Health & Safety initiatives,
  • Makes sure that shift staffing requirements are met, coordinates and schedules the activities of
employees,
  • Carries out workplace and TMF inspections on a regular basis,
  • Identifies, investigates, corrects, and documents potential work problems as well as health, safety,
and environmental issues,
  • Establishes methods to meet work schedules and coordinates work activities with other departments,
  • Provides information for production plans to ensure that production objectives are met,
  • Reviews and reports to Tailings Superintendent on tailings equipment to seek efficiency
improvements,
  • Contributes to developing methods, tools, and parts so downtime is minimal,
  • Monitors and reports on equipment component wear and tear and requisitions materials and supplies,
  • Supervises and participates in the execution of equipment maintenance plans in the Mill,
  • Ensures all preventive and predictive maintenance plans are planned and scheduled via a
computerized maintenance management system,
  • Ensures update of the database for maintenance activities of all work performed,
  • Provides reports on maintenance activities and equipment performance,
  • Participates in interviewing, hiring, training, and developing employees to retain and develop the best
talent for the Company,
  • Manages performance by setting expectations, conducting performance reviews, providing feedback,
and coaching to achieve business plans and production goals,
  • Identifies training opportunities that provide depth and versatility for employees in the team and trains
staff in production methods, safety procedures, and company policies,
  • Promotes a positive employee environment to ensure a continuation of a solid working relationship
with all employees,
  • Organizes and schedules the activities of certified trades, labourers, and contractors’ employees,
when required,
  • Supports coordination and execution of the mill shutdowns,
  • Enforces housekeeping standards in all areas of responsibility,
  • Performs any other responsibilities necessary to support the crushing, operations, or tailings areas
related to the Supervisor of Tailings role as required or as assigned by the department head.Education & Experience
  • Expertise in production and/or maintenance strategies for large-scale, continuous operating mineral
processing plants and/or tailings management facilities,
  • Considered attributes for this role are:
a. Ten (10) years of mill/crusher operations experience with at least three (3) years of whichshould be in a supervisory capacity, coupled with a proven track record of successfullyleading a team in an industrial environment,ORb. Five plus (5+) years of experience in a maintenance role, together with a strongunderstanding of maintenance process improvements and control strategies,ORc. Bachelor’s degree in mining, metallurgy or an equivalent combination of education andrelevant work experiences,
  • Current BC Mine Supervisor Certificate or the ability to obtain certification within 3 months of being
awarded the position,
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office productivity suite including experience with
computerized control and operating systems,
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.
Required Skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, coupled with exceptional interpersonal skills,
  • Proven leadership, motivational, and team-building capabilities, and the foresight to recognize and
overcome any potential challenges while effectively supervising the hourly staff and independentcontractors,
  • Strong analytical skills to identify and understand efficiencies to recommend and implement
improvements and changes to maximize operations,
  • Have a solid understanding of operating equipment and be able to provide guidance to operators for
the safe operation of excavators and dozers
  • Be familiar with the safe operation of the TMF and coordinate with engineering on dam safety
concerns
  • Demonstrated ability to be effective in a fast-paced, dynamic, multitasking work environment,
  • Possess a strong work ethic with a drive for improvement,
  • Ability to build and maintain lasting relationships with key business partners, and internal customers,
  • Competent in filling out forms including transmittals, warehouse vouchers, timecards, expense forms
and investigation forms,
  • Required to meet pre-employment testing.
Working Conditions
  • Team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings.
  • Work includes manual dexterity to use desktop computers and peripheral devices,
  • Occasional exposure to hazardous environments with the requirement of wearing Personal Protective
Equipment (PPE),
  • Frequent exposure to uncomfortable conditions associated with the work environment such as noise
and working in dusty and wet environments,
  • Work requires heavy lifting, awkward positions, walking and standing,
  • Exceptional exposure to unfavourable working conditions associated with the work environment such
as confined spaces, ladders, and/or rooftops,
  • Work involves pushing, pulling, and moving equipment and/or supplies over 50 pounds,
  • Job requires to be clean-shaven.
Other Requirements
  • Successful completion of pre-employment screening requirements and drug & alcohol testing,
  • Provide proof of a valid Class 5/7N driver’s license,
  • Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada.
