Community:Rankin InletReference number:05-507509Type of employment:IndeterminateUnion Status:This position is included in the Nunavut Employees UnionSalary:$100,799.00 to $114,407.00 per annum, 42 hour/weekNorthern Allowance:$18,517.00 per annumSubsidized staff housing availableClosing Date:Friday, November 4, 2022 - 11:59pmThis is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Warden Operations the Corrections Supervisor supervises up to 48 inmates within established guidelines in order to provide safe and secure custody, while at the same time encouraging rehabilitation and reintegration.The guiding principles of the Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit will be incorporated into the facility’s practices and will serve key connection between our operations and the community we serve. The Corrections Supervisor is a key position in setting professional and healthy work standards and ensuring that service delivery is timely, appropriate and reflects positively on the community, facility, Division and Department of Justice.The position is based out of Rankin Inlet Healing Facility in Rankin Inlet and provides leadership, direction and supervises and mentors 6 to 9 Caseworkers on shift at any given time.Responsible for the revision and authorization of all operational related paperwork generated during each shift worked; operational related aspects of the facility in the absence of the Assistant Deputy Warden of Operations. The Corrections Supervisor conducts ongoing patrols of the facility, providing guidance and leadership to staff and assisting with resolving issues that cannot be managed by staff; Process new admissions to the facility that arrives outside of normal administrative working hours.The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a high school diploma with 3 year’s correctional experience, 1 year supervisory experience and class 5 driver’s license with the ability to obtain a Class 4; current First Aid & CPR certification; Good theoretical understanding of human behavior and adult offender issues. Ability to assess and evaluate human behavior; Strong understanding of corrections policies and procedures; Excellent knowledge of various corrections techniques; Ability to interpret and understand various Court documents; Strong verbal and written communication skills.Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.An eligibility list may be created to fill future vacancies.If you are interested in applying for this job, please email your cover letter and resume to KivalliqHR@gov.nu.ca.
