You will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.

  • Ensure a safe work environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors of the division
  • Promote continuous improvement of safety performance by improving Health & Safety (H&S) programs and procedures;
  • Develop and implement controls to ensure compliance with the Nunavut Mine Health and Safety Act and Regulations;
  • Maintain awareness of amendments/changes to applicable Health and Safety Regulations, and make action plan for their implementation;
  • Provide Health and Safety leadership, coaching, guidance and support;
  • Play a leadership role in promoting a positive H&S culture;
  • Uphold business continuity, crisis and emergency management plans and procedures;
  • Ensure that job site-safety compliance inspections are performed including hazard analysis, safe work procedures, written reports and recommendations;
  • Ensure that incident investigations are performed according to expectations and corrective measures are implemented;
  • Play a key role in the risk management framework for the division.
  • Oversee and support the health & safety department including the emergency response team, clinic nurses, security officer, health & safety counselor, procedure compliance specialist and industrial hygnienist.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Relations, Science or a related field to Health & Safety with a minimum of 10 years of experience in Health & Safety, preferably in the mining industry, specifically in underground, surface and process plant settings;
  • Certificate in Organizational Health and Safety combined with a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation is an asset plus records of work accident management;
  • Ability to manage numerous projects in a timely manner while recognizing their respective priorities;
  • Autonomous and can handle several responsibilities at the same time;
  • Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills;
  • Adapt at managing change in a dynamic environment;
  • Good knowledge of industrial hygiene principles;
  • Experience with Management Systems (I.E. ISO, OHSA, Towards Sustainable Mining);
  • Experience in management of workers’ compensation claims is an asset;
  • Background in emergency response for Surface & Underground mine rescue and medical issues is an asset;
  • Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office Suite applications especially Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
Note that the official working language at Meliadine is English.Your Work Schedule:
  • Schedule: 14 days of work, followed by 14 days for transportation and rest;
  • Accommodations and meals are provided on site at no cost to the employee. Agnico Eagle provides charter flights to and from the mine site and will accommodate to cover other travelling expenses according to your location of residence in Canada.
