Meliadine is located just northwest of Rankin Inlet, a small coastal town on the shores of Hudson Bay. Commercial production began at Meliadine in mid-May 2019 and the mine officially opened at the end of June. This mine is our largest gold deposit in terms of mineral resources and we expect to operate it for at least 14 years. The site features a power plant and processing facilities, as well as a complete camp complex.YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE:Reporting to the Environment Superintendent, the Environment General Supervisor will perform his/her duties as a member of the Meliadine Environment Department and collaborates with other departments of the division. The General Supervisor is responsible for the operation of the environment department at Meliadine. The incumbent will organize, prepare and manage the required documentation in order to ensure good environmental practices are being followed for the team in terms of site inspections, water management, water monitoring, dust management, spills, waste, wildlife management, as well as new environmental projects. He/she will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved, while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s culture, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.Your Next Challenge:

  • Ensure efficient operation of the department through supervision of the environmental coordinators, water management coordinator, compliance and environmental specialists, and the management of consultants for environmental programs and reporting;
  • Lead or assist with site inspections with regulators and communicate with inspectors/regulators/officers as required;
  • Ensure compliance with regulations/permits/plans, following up on actions for non-conformities;
  • Ensure proper execution of the established water management strategies;
  • Provide guidance to underground and surface operations to ensure environmental obligations are met;
  • Ensure the production of weekly/monthly reports and participate on annual report preparations, and reviews;
  • Coordinate and ensure achievement of the implementation of site-wide best practices in risk management and ensure compliance to standards (Responsible Mining and Management System (RMMS), Toward Sustainable Mining (TSM), Responsible Gold Mining Principle (RGMP), International Cyanide Management Code (ICMC)…);
  • Work in collaboration with all site departments related to environmental management;
  • Collaborate and liaise with the Community Relations and Permitting teams;
  • Participate in the project development/construction activities;
  • Assist in budget development and control (variance, forecasts);
  • Lead by example by applying the best leadership and environmental-oriented practices while respecting the Company’s Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (water resources/geotechnical/mining environment) or environmental sciences/environmental management/biology/chemistry/hydrology or any other relevant field;
  • 8 - 10 years of work experience in one of the above fields is required;
  • 5 years of proven leadership/supervisory experience is required;
  • Arctic experience and mining project experience would be an asset;
  • Adaptability and autonomy competencies;
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team;
  • Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office Suite applications especially Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint;
  • Strong ability to effectively communicate in English (oral and written). Selected candidates must attain a passing mark on the SPEEXX English language assessment.
Your Work Schedule
  • The schedule will depend on candidate location within Canada: 7 days of work, followed by 7 days for transportation and rest or 14 days of work, followed by 14 days for transportation and rest; flights departing from all communities in the Kivalliq region, Mirabel or Val-d’Or, Quebec.
