Meliadine is located just northwest of Rankin Inlet, a small coastal town on the shores of Hudson Bay. Commercial production began at Meliadine in mid-May 2019 and the mine officially opened at the end of June. This mine is our largest gold deposit in terms of mineral resources and we expect to operate it for at least 14 years. The site features a power plant and processing facilities, as well as a complete camp complex.YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE: Reporting to the Health & Safety General Supervisor, the Health & Safety Counselor is part of the Health & Safety department and collaborates with other departments of the mine. He/she will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved, while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s culture, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.

  • Develop and facilitate the implementation of Health and Safety Management tools (Job Hazard Analysis, Job Task Observation, Incident Declaration forms, Incident Investigations), as well as assisting in developing a Meliadine Health & Safety Program;
  • Initiate cross-department training to improve workflow and streamline the management of risks, both at the operational level and in larger scopes such as H&S risks;
  • Assist in Management System audits as well as audits in Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM);
  • Review and optimize the utilization of H&S software, standardizing document control and record management site-wide;
  • Perform workplace audits on the implementation of H&S tools (JTO, JHA) as well as contribute to and streamline departmental safety meetings.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Relations, Science or other fields related to Health & Safety;
  • Certificate in a Health and Safety-related field, combined with a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation is an asset;
  • 3-4 years of experience in Health and Safety;
  • Experience in the mining industry is an asset;
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team;
  • Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office Suite applications especially Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint;
  • Strong ability to effectively communicate in English (Oral and written). Selected candidates must attain a passing mark on the SPEEXX English language assessment.
Your Work Schedule
  • Schedule: 14 days of work, followed by 14 days for transportation and rest; flights departing from all communities in the Kivalliq region, Mirabel or Val-d’Or, Quebec.
