Meliadine is located just northwest of Rankin Inlet, a small coastal town on the shores of Hudson Bay. Commercial production began at Meliadine in mid-May 2019 and the mine officially opened at the end of June. This mine is our largest gold deposit in terms of mineral resources and we expect to operate it for at least 14 years. The site features a power plant and processing facilities, as well as a complete camp complex.YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE: Reporting to the Environment Water Management Coordinator, the Hydrology/Hydrogeology Specialist will perform his/her duties as a member of the Environment department and collaborate with other departments of the division. The incumbent will be responsible for the execution of studies and monitoring pertaining to hydrogeology, hydrology, and the water balance on site. Further responsibilities will include assisting with the development and overseeing of water management strategies and ensuring efficient collaboration with various departments within the company. She/He will continually apply technical expertise pertaining to hydrogeology and hydrology in order to ensure best management practices and compliance to established environmental standards. He/she will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved, while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s culture, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.

  • Provide hydrogeological/hydrological expertise to the operation in order to optimize the water management strategy and ensure compliance to environmental standards;
  • Lead studies and monitoring aimed to better understand physical and geochemical processes relating to surface and groundwater management on site;
  • Update and apply water balance and water quality models to advise decision making on site;
  • Update and run the underground hydrogeological predictive inflow model to advise operations;
  • Carry out field work in areas including the industrial site, open pit mine, and underground mine;
  • Develop and ensure proper maintenance of databases relating to groundwater monitoring, water balance tracking, and key water quality indicators on site;
  • Assist in overseeing the movement and management of water on site to ensure regulatory compliance and optimization of the water balance;
  • Report writing including preparation of management plans and external reporting documents;
  • Participate in, and at times lead, water management meetings;
  • Develop and ensure adherence to sampling/monitoring procedures;
  • Apply the highest degree of health and safety on a daily basis, conforming with the company’s health and safety standards;
  • Respect the commitments of the companys sustainable development policy;
  • Respect the companys code of ethics;
  • The role is expected to consist of approximately 30% field work and 70% office work.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
  • Bachelors degree in Hydrogeology, Hydrology, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, or other relevant field;
  • 5+ years of work experience in hydrogeology, hydrology, or water resources management;
  • Experience with GoldSim, FEFLOW, and other modelling and/or predictive software is an asset;
  • Eligibility to register with NAPEG is an asset;
  • Mining experience is an asset;
  • Underground mining modules or equivalent is an asset;
  • Ability to work autonomously;
  • Strong ability to apply scientific method, and think analytically and conceptually;
  • Experience with multi-tasking and working with multi-disciplinary project teams;
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team;
  • Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office software, especially Excel and Word.
  • Strong ability to effectively communicate in English (Oral and written). Candidates must attain a passing grade on a SPEEXX English Language Assessment.
Your Work Schedule
  • Schedule: 14 days of work, followed by 14 days for transportation and rest; flights departing from all communities in the Kivalliq region, Mirabel or Val-d’Or, Quebec.
