The Regional Communicable Disease Coordinator (RCDC) will act as a resource for frontline healthcare professionals by providing information on communicable disease policies, procedures and best practice guidelines in accordance with Nunavut standards. The RCDC will inform the office of the Chief Public Health Officer (CPHO) on communicable diseases and outbreaks in the region. The position will provide advice to assist with the planning, implementation, and evaluation for all programs related to communicable disease, vaccine-preventable diseases, and immunizations as prescibed in the communicable diseases policies, procedures, and guidelines. Working with the Nunavut Health Protection Unit the successful candidate will provide education to healthcare professionals, and advise on preventation, management, surveillance and control of communicable disease in accordance with Territorial and National standards for communicable disease control, significantly and positively impacting the health for Nunavummiut.As the successful candidate you will be assisting the CPHO office with the process of development, implementation and evaluation of policies, procedures, guidelines and standards related to the delivery of communicable disease preventation, control and outbreak management programs. Provide support, education and mentorship to healthcare professionals by clarifying and explain communicable disease diagnostic documents and decisions (x-rays, cat scans, repeat testing, sputa, medication, etc.) to frontline staff. Manage communicable disease data records across the region by monitoring, promoting and implementing the reporting of suspected or laboratory-confirmed communicable diseases to identify emerging trends across the region and to inform the effective identification, management and preventation of the disease, as required by the CPHO.To be invited for an interview; you as the successful candidate; you must have Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or diploma with equivalencies), three years of clincial pubic health nursing experience, RNANT/NU registration, must have completed certification in immunization, sexual health, TB and CPR. The contextual knowledge for this position is the theories, principles and practices of pubic health nursing and strategies. The knowledge og Inuit social determinates of health and the knowledge of Inuit culture and Inuit Qaujimajatungagit. Applicable legislation, policies and procedures including knowledge of ATIPP and privacy best practices.The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut (Inuinnaqtun), English and French.Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official language is an asset. Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.Please note that COVID-19 immunization is a mandatory condition of employment.
