The position contributes to a stronger cohesiveness amongst the Mental Health team members, knowing that they are part of a larger community of interest with strong communication linkages. This position impacts the public by increasing public safety through the coordination of mental health support and intervention in crises situations. This position also promotes public awareness of mental health issues. Various departments and agencies are impacted by the position, the Departments of Justice and Education, the RCMP, medical service providers and various community resources.The Regional Manager Mental Health & Addictions plans and facilitates the implementation of community mental health programs by consulting with agencies, community groups and with government officials in relation to specific concerns in order to identify objectives and priority areas and plan appropriate action in an attempt to alleviate concerns. You will also facilitate the consultation of community mental health, addiction and social service programs by assisting in promoting community education and awareness. Other responsibilities are ensuring the provision of support services to individuals, families and the community by ensuring the establishment of an intervention plan with the client’s involvement as much as possible.The requirements for this position are theories, principles and practices in the fundamentals of counselling psychology, theoretical knowledge of approaches to counselling and mental health and addictions. The knowledge of best practices for mental health and addictions treatments, the ability to advocate on behalf of clients and for the departments and the ability to be an innovative and collaborative leader with the skills to engage a team of multidisciplinary professionals.The ideal candidate will have an undergraduate degree of Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, or, in a related field with five (5) years of directly related professional experience in the field of clinical counselling. The incumbent will also require a minimum of two (2) years of experience in a supervisory role.The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, Inuinnaqtun, English and French.The ability to communicate in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. A master’s degree in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work or related field would also be considered an asset.Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.If you are interested in applying for this job, please email your cover letter and resume to KivalliqHR@gov.nu.ca.
