Meliadine is located just northwest of Rankin Inlet, a small coastal town on the shores of Hudson Bay. Commercial production began at Meliadine in mid-May 2019 and the mine officially opened at the end of June. This mine is our largest gold deposit in terms of mineral resources and we expect to operate it for at least 14 years. The site features a power plant and processing facilities, as well as a complete camp complex.YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE:Reporting to the Engineering Coordinator, the Surveyor is part of the Engineering Department and collaborates with other departments of the mine. The incumbent will primarily be involved in the accurate measurement and recording of the progression of mine workings, further ensuring the recorded information is translated onto mining plans in a clear and timely manner. They will ensure the goals and objectives are attained whilst promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s company culture, Health & Safety and Environmental Code of Conduct.

  • Install laser stations and complete regular survey updates for all development headings underground;
  • Ensure all said information is transferred onto the appropriate mining plans and made available to the end user(s) in a timely and efficient manner;
  • Produce a bi-monthly reconciliation of the mine-wide development meters and associated volume excavated from the underground workings, attributing each reconciled meter as either an operation or capital expenditure;
  • Complete regular CMS surveys of the production stopes in various stages of the stope cycle in order to monitor production status;
  • Hole collar pick-up and breakthrough surveys of long-hole production drilling activities to assist drill & blast technicians with stope blast design & timing;
  • Conduct mine-wide water infiltration surveys to assist decision making in underground water management strategy decisions;
  • Develop and contribute to the development of standardized work procedures of surveying activities;
  • Although the primary focus is on the underground mining operation, the incumbent may also be asked to preform surface survey work, e.g. update of the surface survey infrastructure map; update of the surface stockpile/waste dump/tailings storage facility/aggregate stockpile status maps, hole collar and boot leg pick-up etc.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
  • Mine Technician degree or Civil Engineering professional diploma;
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in surveying (production mining context);
  • Proactive attitude towards Health & Safety in the workplace;
  • Expertise with survey equipment (total station, CMS, base station & rover);
  • Comfortable working in a team orientated environment in addition to being a motivated and independent self-starter, able to plan and prioritize his/her own work load;
  • Possess strong communication skills to be able to effectively liaise across multiple departments;
  • Knowledge and experience with Deswik planning software is considered an asset;
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team;
  • Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office Suite applications especially Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint;
  • Strong ability to effectively communicate in English (Oral and written). Selected candidates must attain a passing mark on the SPEEXX English language assessment.
Your Work Schedule
  • Schedule: 14 days of work, followed by 14 days for transportation and rest; flights departing from all communities in the Kivalliq region, Mirabel or Val-d’Or, Quebec.
