This job is outdoors, requires physical fitness, customer service skills and mechanical aptitude. Our office is in Calgary and we work throughout the province of Alberta and the BC Interior. Our work season will kick off mid-April (when conditions permit) in the areas of Raymond, Stirling, Cardston and Mountain View for approximately 1.5 - 2 months. We are hoping to find a few local people to join our team. Persons who demonstrate competence and reliability will be invited to travel with the crew following the completion of these work areas. Other work areas for the year are near Stavely, Brooks, Calgary/ surrounding rural areas and Edmonton/ surrounding rural areas. Employees who excel and demonstrate competence in the scope of work may be considered for advancement to crew lead roles. The work season generally lasts from April to November (freeze up) in Alberta. Out of province/ country work may be offered during winter months.The purpose of the job is to identify wooden utility poles which are no longer fit for service or are immediate public safety hazards. Poles which are fit to remain in service will be remedially treatedDuties and responsibilities1. Perform inspection of wood utility poles on power distribution and transmission electrical systems.2. Comprehensive visual inspection of each utility pole/structure3. Hands-on wood pole inspection including digging, sounding, drilling, measuring, and treating using a variety of hand tools (such as shovels, hammers, drills, resistograph, etc.)4. Recording the collected data on a computer device (laptop/tablet/phone).5. Traveling to and working in a variety of settings, from urban to remote, using trucks, 4x4, and side-by-side vehicles.Requirements1. Be in top physical shape and work outdoors; able to walk/hike several kilometers per day possibly in rough terrain, hand dig large holes in a variety of substrates (including very rough/rocky terrain)2. Be able to follow all safety, environmental, work quality, and production protocols.3. Be capable of working away from home for extended periods of time and possibly working alone. 3. Use and understand a laptop computer or tablet4. Read, follow, understand, and navigate maps5. Use hand tools (such as a hammer and shovel) and small power tools according to Safe Work Procedures6. A valid drivers license and reliable transportation is required. An approved driver abstract will be required to drive company vehiclesWhat the company offers:1.
