Job Description

CUPE 5791 Job Family Category Staff Number of Vacancies 1 Position SummaryThe Faculty of Nursing in partnership with Saskatchewan Polytechnic currently offers two undergraduate programs – the Saskatchewan Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing (SCBScN) (including Bilingual Option) and the SCBScN After Degree Nursing Program (ADNP), with a total intake of approximately 350 students each fall. The SCBScN program is currently offered in Regina, Saskatoon, and North Battleford (years 3 & 4); the ADNP in Regina only. The SCBScN program at the North Battleford site is offered in an alternate format where students attend those sites only in their 4th year.The Faculty has equity seats (16%) for Indigenous students. This position is responsible for providing support, retention, and recruitment initiatives for students, focusing specifically on those who are self-declared as Indigenous. As well, this position provides academic advising to undergraduate Nursing students.Reporting to the Associate Dean (Undergraduate), this position has responsibility and accountability to:Provide prospective and current students with accurate admission, program and course information (e.g. transfer credits, electives, pre-requisites).Organize and participate in student recruitment and retention initiatives, including but not limited to promoting the SCBScN programs to First Nations communities within Regina, Saskatoon and throughout the province.Advise students and faculty about university processes and policies (e.g. deferrals, withdrawal dates, medical/compassionate withdrawals and convocation procedures).Arrange and facilitate support from other departments within the institution, such as Student Success Centre, Counseling Services, ta-tawâw Student Centre, cultural activities and Elders for Indigenous nursing students.Work collaboratively with support personnel at Sask Polytech’s Regina and Saskatoon campuses to develop and deliver support programs for Indigenous students to increase student retention and success.Collects, analyzes and updates Indigenous student data to report and present to internal and external administration and stakeholders including admission, enrollment, withdrawal, retention, and graduation data.Coordinate with nursing advisors to ensure timely and accurate delivery of program information to all students.Coordinate new student orientation for Indigenous students.Organize and chair the Indigenous Nursing Advisory Council.Assist with Student Services responsibilities as assigned.Other duties as assigned.Position RequirementsPosition RequirementsThe ideal candidate will be a self-declared Indigenous person who possesses a university degree plus a minimum of two years’ of experience directly related to the required duties. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Demonstrated experience in working with Indigenous people and communities; must have knowledge of Indigenous traditions to complement recruitment and advising initiatives.Exceptional interpersonal skills and an ability to develop and maintain effective collegial working relationships with a diverse clientele, and specifically the Indigenous demographic.Demonstrated knowledge of office practices, principles and procedures.Excellent organizational skills including a proven ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, prioritize work and accomplish tasks correctly and on time.Exceptional problem solving and conflict resolution skills.Exceptional written and oral communications skills in order to effectively communicate with faculty, staff, students, partners and the community.High attention to detail and accuracy.Demonstrated knowledge of appropriate methods to handle confidential material.Exceptional interpersonal skills and an ability to develop and maintain effective collegial working relationships.Proficiency in the use of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Demonstrated skill in learning and applying a variety of policies, procedures and processes.Preference is given to candidates who have a knowledge of the University and Faculty of Nursing’s programs, policies and processes including registration, UR Self-Serve, convocation, academic action, transfer credit, grade changes, deferrals, withdrawals, academic misconduct and academic appeals.Demonstrated skill in learning and operating a wide variety of databases and information systems. Preference is given to candidates with a demonstrated knowledge of University information systems.Demonstrated presentation skills.Physical Demands Pay Grade APT 4 Salary Range $60,172 - $81,196 Annually Status Permanent Work Hours8:15 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. – Monday to FridaySome evenings and weekends.
