This position provides supervision, training, and leadership to Lifeguard Instructor I/IIs, ensuring that program staff adheres to established schedules, procedures and standards. This position reports to a Program Specialist or the Leisure Centre Supervisor/Sportplex Supervisor. Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform all duties and responsibilities of a Lifeguard Instructor I/II, as required.
• Respond to and supervise emergency situations, and ensure all follow up and required documentation is completed.
• Plan, organize and implement special events and information nights for recruitment and including onsite visits at schools.
• Assist in evaluating instructional and lifeguard techniques of lifeguard staff including checking lesson plans, and providing coaching and performance evaluations.
• Assist in the program planning process for aquatic programs and schedules, which includes contributing to setting goals and objectives.
• Assist in the planning, implementation and evaluation of in-service training and staff development.
• Assist with employee recruitment and retention including planning and hosting information sessions, training new employees, and helping potential employees apply online.
• Assist LI/LII’s with managing their awards and future training.
• Follow all rules and regulations as set out in the Provincial Swimming Pool Regulations, Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and the City of Regina Occupational Health and Safety Manual.
• Conduct leadership courses such as, but not limited to, Red Cross Water Safety Instructor and Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard.
• Perform related duties as required.
• Manage and oversee high level courses Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques employed in water safety and lifeguarding activities.
• Knowledge of the rules, regulations and procedures dealing with swimming pool operations, as outlined by the relevant acts, bylaws and policies.
• Knowledge of training and instruction techniques applicable to the work.
• Knowledge of the general rules and regulations of the Provincial Swimming Pool Regulations and Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Ability to supervise the work of program staff.
• Ability to express ideas and concepts effectively in oral and written form.
• Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with the general public and co-workers.
• Ability to show initiative and dedication as shown by contributions made to the aquatics field.
• Demonstrated skill in swimming, lifeguarding and instructional duties.
• Demonstrated skills in communication and public speaking.
• Ability to problem solve and experience in conflict resolution. Education & Experience
• Typically the knowledge, skills and abilities required are obtained through completion of grade twelve (12) or GED Equivalent combined with two (2) years experience in an aquatics facility providing effective lifeguard and instructional responsibilities.

Certification Requirements:At least one (1) of the following:

• Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Service (NLS - Pool Option)
• Canadian Red Cross Pool Lifeguard

At least one (1) of the following:

• Canadian Red Cross CPR Level C with Automated External Defibrillation (AED)
• St. John’s Ambulance Standard First Aid: CPR Level C with Automated External Defibrillation (AED)

At least one (1) of the following:

• Lifesaving Society Aquatic Supervisor
• City of Regina Lead Guard Course

Must have all of the following:

• Canadian Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Instructor
• Saskatchewan Swimming Pool Operators Course
• Lifesaving Society Instructor Award or Canadian Red Cross Assistant Lifeguard

Instructor AwardIn addition, must be certified in any two (2) of the following Instructor, Instructor Trainer or Examiner Awards:

• Canadian Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer or equivalent
• Canadian Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor or equivalent
• Lifesaving Society Instructor Trainer
• Standard First Aid Instructor (Canadian Red Cross or St. John’s)
• Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Instructor
• Lifesaving Society Bronze Medallion/Cross or National Lifeguard Examiner
• Lifesaving Examiner Mentor Working/Other Conditions
