CUPE 5791 Job Family N/A Category Academic Number of Vacancies 1 Position SummaryThe UNIVERSITY OF REGINA School of Journalism in the Faculty of Arts invites applications for a half-time two-semester position as the Dallas W. Smythe Chair in Journalism and the Public Interest, from August 30, 2022 to April 30, 2023.The successful candidate will teach one class each semester on the independent and critical practice of print/digital journalism and teaching the essential skills to become a successful journalist. This position includes further responsibilities as below.

  • Supervise students’ work for publication
  • Update and enhance program delivery
  • The visiting chair will be available as a resource person for the students, faculty and staff of the School of Journalism.
The Fall course is JRN300 and Winter is JRN305. Courses assigned are subject to change.JRN300Students learn the process of generating, pitching, researching, writing, editing and publishing stories for printed and on-line publications. With a weekly lab, this course focuses on fundamentals and principles for gathering, assembling and producing accurate, timely news stories with headlines, photographs, cutlines, and social media according to Canadian Press style.Refer to the on-line course description for JRN305.Position RequirementsRecent and relevant professional newsroom experience is required. Preference given to applicants with experience working across print and digital journalism. Applicants must hold, at minimum, a Bachelor of Journalism degree or equivalent.The successful applicant must have excellent communication skills, comprehensive knowledge of journalistic practices and a demonstrated commitment and enthusiasm for teaching.
