With a national office in Toronto and seven regional offices across the country, NCC delivers results you can walk on.*Position Summary: *The Ecological Restoration Manager role is an important member of the team, primarily supporting habitat and ecosystem process restoration activities, with a focus on the implementation of restoration projects in Saskatchewan. Externally, they will liaise with partners, contactors and volunteers. Internally, they will work closely and cooperatively with Regional team members from the conservation team (project planning and delivery) and development team (fundraising and reporting), with similar positions in other regions and with national staff. The role involves technical and operational/administrative work as well as travel and independent fieldwork.*Key Responsibilities: *Developing and Implementing Restoration Plans

• Developing restoration plans for NCC properties and ensure plans are consistent across the region
• Coordinating and supervising habitat and ecosystem process restoration activities, including but not limited to site preparation, native planting and seeding, seed and propagule material collection, erosion control installation, herbicide application and any other activities necessary for field implementation of ecological restoration projects as well as ongoing maintenance.
• Procuring materials and equipment.
• Assisting with sourcing and coordinating fee for service contractors.
• Collaborating with stewardship staff on specific project planning.

**Ecological Restoration Program Coordination

• Coordinating the Ecological Restoration Program under the direction of the Director of Conservation and in collaboration with science and stewardship staff, and other regional staff.
• Providing theoretical and technical expertise on ecological habitat and process restoration approaches that are evidence-based and include adaptive management strategies that consider property- and landscape-level implications, along with multi-species at risk-focused strategies and plans.
• Working with NCC regional staff and conservation partners to develop and implement objective-based effectiveness monitoring of ecosystem restoration.
• Assisting the regional team in fundraising to support ongoing and future ecological restoration program implementation.
• Monitoring the regional annual budget related to restoration, project specific budgets and providing expenditure updates and donor reports.

Monitoring Progress of Restoration Activities and Addressing Stewardship Concerns

• Conducting field work in support of new and ongoing habitat restoration projects, including identifying and managing non-native plant populations through a combination of herbicide application, hand-pulling, mowing,
• Conducting surveys and assessments of the status of ecosystems and species on NCC restoration sites and the effectiveness of conservation actions.
• Collecting and analyzing field data, presenting results and preparing mapping as required for stewardship planning and reporting.
• Preparing reports for fieldwork and land management recommendations following restoration in collaboration with other NCC staff.
• Conducting data management using GIS, Land Resource Management and other tracking systems.
• Preparing technical reports.

Development, Communications and Engagement

• Working with the Development, Communication and Engagement team to facilitate stories, and media related to all aspects of this role.
• Representing NCC on boards and committees relevant to this role as appropriate.
• Working with NCC engagement team to facilitate relationships, tours, and communications to landowners, donors and supporters about NCC’s ecological restoration work.

Staff Supervision and Support

• Working with interns, partners and/or volunteers when necessary.
• Assisting with the coordination and delivery of Conservation Volunteer events as needed.
• Working with regional science and stewardship staff in all aspects of restoration, including coordination of work plans.

*Skills and Aptitudes: *

• Graduate with an agriculture, biology, ecology, forestry, or environmental science degree/diploma or equivalent.
• Ecological restoration education or experience is required.
• Reclamation experience or expertise is considered an asset.
• 4+ years of experience related to conservation and ecological restoration.
• Experience with ecological restoration techniques and native and invasive species plant identification and/ or control techniques;
• Demonstrated habitat and ecosystem process restoration experience;
• Experience with project planning and management;
• Knowledge of ecosystem management practices, field methodology, and restoration ecology;
• Ability to independently take a project from background research to action in a short period of time;
• Working knowledge of Saskatchewan landscapes, communities, agricultural and conservation issues;
• In-field navigation experience and skills;
• Working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems and data management;
• Ability to work outdoors in various terrain and under various weather conditions;
• Ability to work independently, be self-motivated, and display superior time management and organizational skills, attention to detail, as well as the ability to meet deadlines;
• Familiarity with common computer software (Microsoft Office Suite);
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to interact with the public to convey a conservation message, and work with agricultural producers and conservation partners;
• Valid Driver’s License, with ability to rent a vehicle.
• Saskatchewan Pesticide Applicator Certification or willingness to complete training to be licensed by NCC is an asset;
• Experience operating truck/ trailer combinations and equipment such as tractors, ATVs, chainsaws.
• Experience with fundraising and grant writing, submitting grants and managing grants;
• Experience with reclamation techniques and requirements
