Job Description

Faculty/Department Centre for Continuing Education Unit CCE-English as a Second Language Program Employee Group URFA CUPE 5791 Job Family N/A Category Sessional Number of Vacancies Multiple Position SummaryThe ESL Program invites applicants for Sessional Instructor appointments to begin for Winter 2023.. The successful candidate(s) will teach ESL courses in the academic integrated skills program (classes will be delivered remotely, blended: remote and in-person, and in-person. A combination of Hy-flex hours, in-person, and asynchronous hours to equal 6-15 hrs per week.); and/or the LINC program (classes are between 6 – 12.5 contact hours per week over the semester. Classes are through a combination of Zoom, Hy-flex, in-person, and asynchronous hours. The Customized programs classes are variable hours for 3 to 11 weeks. There will also be Supply Teaching positions available dependent on the needs of the program.Position RequirementsThe ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • An M.Ed. or M.A. in TESL or a related field (a B.Ed. or B.A. in a related field is the minimum requirement)
  • TESL Accreditation (i.e. TESL Canada, TESL Sask.) TESL Canada Level 1 is the minimum requirement to teach as a Sessional in the Regular Program
  • Knowledge of second language acquisition and teaching methodology
  • Experience in teaching English as a Second Language within an integrated skills ESL/EAP program
  • Proven ability to work at different levels (basic, intermediate or advanced)
  • Experience in curriculum development
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Language Benchmarks
  • Ability to work as a team member
  • Demonstration of a creative and reflective approach to language teaching
  • Experience teaching in a multi-cultural environment
  • Experience teaching through remote delivery would be an asset.
A written copy of the appointment procedures is available upon request.
  • Previous teaching experience, especially TESL would be considered an asset
  • Experience working with newcomers to Canada would be considered an asset.
