Job Description

Our missionWe are Saskatchewan’s children’s museum. Wonderhub brings children and families together to create, learn, play, and explore without boundaries.Job PurposeReporting to the CEO, the Finance Manager is a key member of the museum’s management team. The Finance Manager performs financial and accounting duties internally, oversees the financial accounting system, prepares financial statements and schedules, monitors and advises on investment strategy, supports budget and operational planning, assists in the annual audit, and supervises one part-time finance coordinator.Duties and responsibilities1. Oversee the day-to-day financial operations within the organization:a. Supervise finance coordinator, ensuring AR/AP, cash-out, deposits, reconciliations, and benefits enrolment processes are properly conductedb. Process or oversee the processing of bimonthly payroll including year-end adjustments, T4’s, vacation tracking and reconciliation, ROE’s, Tax Calculations and health plan setup.c. Ensure that the accounting system and network is set up with appropriate audit controls, updating user accounts, and setting up systems’ access privileges.d. Ensure that the inventory amounts reported in the financial system are accurate.e. Deferral and recognition of deferred/restricted revenues on a monthly basis.2. Help ensure proper stewardship of donated funds.a. Create and maintain reporting processes for restricted funds and grants.b. Ensure that donations with restrictions are used in accordance with the donor’s specifications.c. Monthly reconciliation of bank and investment accounts.3. Assist in the preparation of and adherence to annual budget, including providing ongoing reports to CEO and Board of Directors.a. Provide expense and revenue projections and work with CEO and three museum managers to prepare annual budget for Board approval.b. Prepare and maintain monthly financial reports to include:i. Profit and Loss Budget vs. Actual with Varianceii. Balance Sheetiii. Cash Flow Projection4. Assist CEO in monitoring the organization’s financial performance.a. Prepare and submit month-end and year-end reports to CEO.b. Identify areas of possible improvement.c. Manage the annual audit engagement. This will include assisting the auditor with the audit and compiling the required information in a timely manner. Ensure that the year-end audit adjustments are completed, and management recommendations are considered.5. Recommend contracted services for tax preparation, auditing, banking, investments and other financial needs as necessary with oversight from CEO.6. Collecting and remittance of government taxes.7. Establish and maintain financial policies and procedures for the organization.a. Understand and adhere to financial regulations and legislation.b. Seek out methods for minimizing financial risk to the organization.c. Evaluate financial policies and procedures annually, recommending changes to the CEO and Financial Advisory and Risk Management Committee, as needed.8. Other.a. Participate in strategic and organizational planning.b. Serve as a member of the management team, providing leadership and guidance to fellow team members.c. Function as a collaborative member of the Wonderhub team, ensuring the success of the museum through completing other tasks as assigned.d. Support Development Manager in grant application and reporting.e. Annual filing of WCB and ISC Corp Registry.QualificationsThe successful applicant will have a solid knowledge of accounting practices, a degree/diploma in a related field, or equivalent experience and education. Accounting experience in a nonprofit organization is preferred, and CPA designation is an asset.Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and QuickBooks accounting software.The individual should have experience with accounting, bookkeeping, and financial management, with a proven ability to create and implement financial policies and procedures that ensure the smooth functioning of a business or nonprofit organization.The individual should possess proven leadership skills in a diverse and inclusive environment; a commitment to the positive growth and development of children; the ability to think strategically and translate goals into measurable operational objectives; sensitivity to accessibility and inclusion barriers for marginalized children and families; and highly developed interpersonal skills.Working conditionsLocated at Nutrien Wonderhub in Saskatoon, this position is full-time (averaging 40 hours per week).The starting salary is $68,000 per annum plus supplementary health, dental, and vision benefits beginning after a three-month probationary period.This position requires working with the following equipment: POS system and computer.Some travel within Saskatoon is required to attend meetings, community events, and learning opportunities. Occasional overnight travel might be required depending on current activities.The fast-paced operating environment is such that staff may be required to work extra hours to meet the needs of the organization.
