Job Description

The residents may have a diagnosis of psychiatric illness, history of behaviour problems and/or substance abuse. This position will be part of an inter-disciplinary team that seeks to provide comprehensive care to residents.This is a permanent full-time position at 35 hours per week.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Nursing and Clinical Care:
  • Conduct nursing assessments to assess overall wellness and health, including physical, emotional, and mental health
  • Apply a professional interpretation of assessment results, discuss issue(s) or diagnosis with the patient, implement appropriate nursing care plan, provide any appropriate referrals (both internal and external), and direct participants to applicable health and social service resources, as required
  • Ensures that safety and administration of medications is monitored. Follow up is done on all medication errors to prevent recurrence.
  • Provide medication delivery services to residents within facility, ensuring education of medication delivery and documentation of other staff
  • Educate all other staff on maintenance of all necessary documentation (med sheets, care plans, etc.)
  • Work in collaboration with SWADD, SHA, Continuing Care, Mental Health, Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and other health care professionals to provide quality health care to the residents of Waterston Ministries
  • Participate in various aspects of the quality improvement process by carrying out audits and ensuring compliance with standards in accordance with legislative and professional standards
  • Work with multi-disciplinary team by utilizing proven approaches and principles aimed at improving, preventing deterioration, or maintaining a resident’s functional level and quality of life
  • Ensures that Waterston Ministries has established and implemented appropriate infection control procedures with ongoing monitoring.
  • Ensures that concerns with property and equipment are reported and that nursing station is organized, clean, and tidy.
  • Ensure that adequate program supplies are maintained.
  • Process Improvement and Program Support:
  • Work with the Resident Services Director to identify and develop medical or health protocols to improve the quality of care provided to Residents and Participants such as spot audits, new initiatives, etc.
  • Provide guidance and direction to unregulated care providers and non-registered staff with medical/health management of Residents/Participants, care planning, and treatment administration
  • Develop and deliver controlled acts training to frontline staff
  • Be the point of contact for staff who experience COVID19 symptoms or other infectious diseases symptoms, require isolation, or require clearance to return to work after testing or isolation to provide direction on next steps
  • Support the Resident Services Director in the Accreditation and Compliance Review processes
  • Support the Resident Services Director in the implementation of Infection Prevention and Control measures which includes but is not limited to assisting draft protocols/policies, providing training, and performing audits
  • Administration:
  • Provide leadership in medical and health documentation and the updating of resident medical history
  • Participate in Individual Care Plan meetings
  • Support frontline staff and managers with communication of patient information to and from other external agencies or other sectors through written methods, and/or attendance at case conferences
Other Duties As AssignedQUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • NOTE: You may be required to provide validated educational documentation.
Education/Certifications:
  • Graduate of a recognized School of Nursing (University degree preferred)
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Saskatchewan.
  • Credentials in Addictions and Mental Health care
  • Current CPR and First Aid training
Experience:
  • Requires minimum of 2 to 3 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in community health, mental health and/or long-term care is preferred
  • Experience working with individuals with mental health disorders is an asset
