Manager of Health, Safety and Wellness - OCC000404Employment Type: Permanent Full-timeLocation(s): SK-Rgna-ReginaMinistry: 013 Saskbuilds and ProcurementSalary Range: $36.698-$45.986 HourlyGrade: SGEU.11.The Ministry of SaskBuilds and Procurement is seeking a highly motivated and energetic individual to join their Risk and Safety Branch to oversee and deliver the ministry’s health, safety and wellness program.As the Manager of Health, Safety and Wellness, you will be responsible for the health, safety and wellness program at the ministry. This includes providing health and safety leadership, influence and guidance to the ministry’s program areas to assist them in the prevention and reduction of workplace injuries and helps to ensure a respectful work environment. This will be accomplished through hazard identification in systems, equipment, products and procedures and assessing the possibility and severity of loss events and workplace incidents. Environmental instructions will also be provided relating to issues such as asbestos management. In response to these hazards, you will identify, develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures to eliminate or mitigate loss and ensure legislative compliance with employee health and safety requirements. You will also be responsible to manage the ministry’s Return/Stay at Work Program. In addition, you will be responsible for communicating health and safety issues and appropriate procedures to all employees and determining employee training requirements pertaining to health, safety and wellness. You will also conduct investigations into workplace incidents, dangerous occurrences, tenant building related health and safety concerns and contraventions to The Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.As the successful candidate, you will be a team player with superior interpersonal skills and strong oral and written communication skills. You will have a health and safety focus and sense of urgency in providing high quality service in a timely manner. Travel within the province is required.Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position are gained through obtaining certification as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional or as a Certified Occupational Health and Safety Practitioner.You will have knowledge of:Current legislation pertaining to occupational health and safety (OH&S) in Saskatchewan;Occupational health and safety theories, principles, practices and responsibilities;Health and safety requirements, evolving safety techniques, specialized terminology, equipment and workplace procedures;Inspection and investigative techniques and processes;Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board processes (e.g. employee and employer responsibilities for reporting, Return/Stay at Work Program, managing WCB claims, etc.); andThe workings of OH&S committees.You will have the demonstrated ability to:Actively listen, assess needs and provide clear, concise and complete information to ministry staff for comprehension, compliance and/or to reach mutual agreement, verbally or in written form, through memos, letters, reports and official documents;Plan, develop and deliver formal and impromptu presentations to ministry staff to promote health and safety in the workplace;Guide and coach a diverse group of employees to meet ministry goals and objectives, while maintaining a healthy, proactive, respectful and safe work environment that is free of discrimination;Provide leadership and expertise to OH&S committees;Assess hazards and develop and implement policy and procedures;Accurately interpret and comprehend occupational health and safety acts, regulations, programs, policies, codes, standards and guidelines;Interact with potentially difficult, uncooperative people in a respectful, objective but firm manner in order to gain their trust and confidence to resolve health and safety issues;Develop and maintain contacts and a network of other resources to share /obtain information to keep current with ever changing workplace issues;Organize and manage ever changing priorities to ensure tasks are completed in a timely manner;Analyze, verify facts, identify and record relevant information and/or evidence through observation, interview, inquiries and inspections; andInput, edit, update and retrieve information or create documents from a word processing and spreadsheet package quickly and with accuracy.We are committed to workplace diversity.We are committed to workplace diversity.Hours of Work: A - SGEU Office 36 - one day off every two weeksNumber of Openings: 1Closing Date: Jul 10, 2021, 12:59:00 AM
