RODS is committed to meeting the needs of newcomers by offering programs and services to enable them to achieve their goals and participate fully in the larger community.Position SummaryThe positions primary responsibility is to provide professional task-based English as a Subsequent Language instruction to literacy adult refugee and immigrant learners while increasing their understanding of Canadian local, social, workplace and cultural norms. Language training is conducted in alignment with the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) and the progress outcomes are assessed using the Portfolio-Based Language Assessment (PBLA) framework. Evaluation of learners, short and long-term instructional planning (lesson and unit planning) and regular reporting are position requirements. The class time for this position is from 6:30p.m. until 8:45 p.m.The position requires deep understanding and comprehensive knowledge of second language acquisition, ESL literacy, adult education, and ESL teaching methodologies. Strong communication (oral and written), organizational and problem-solving skills are essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively in a cross- cultural setting.Requirements
