We are committed to high citizen and client satisfaction through workplace excellence, continuous improvement and innovation.The OpportunityThe Climate Resilience Branch of the Ministry of Environment is seeking a motivated and experienced individual for the position of Resilience Specialist. This position will report to the Manager of Planning and Reporting within the Adaptation and Resilience Analysis Unit.Major responsibilities include:

  • Providing subject matter expertise and regionally analysis on resilience topics including climate adaptation, carbon management strategies and low-carbon economics.
  • Identifying, researching, and developing innovative resilience opportunities that optimize sustainable growth and adaptation in the face of climate change.
  • Contributing to the Units modelling and other technical analyses including support for date sourcing, model design, and interpretation of results.
  • Developing, curating, and validating resilience reporting relevant to Saskatchewan.
  • Leading intra- and inter-ministerial initiatives on the development, implementation and monitoring of resilience-related policies and programs.
  • Serving as a subject matter representative on Federal - Provincial - Territorial committees focused on climate resilience.
  • Preparing timely written and verbal analysis and advice regarding resilience issues, opportunities, and strategic directions.
Typically, the knowledge, skills and experience required to be successful in this position would have been obtained through:
  • A graduate education in a transdisciplinary field that bridges science and socio-economic domains such as sustainability management, environmental studies, or environmental economics.
  • Substantive professional experience applying scientific and socio-economic theories and principles to analyze complex issues, and providing timely delivery and audience-appropriate communication of analyses and project results.
You will have knowledge of:
  • Resilience principles and how these may be applied across subject matter areas.
  • Adaptation and carbon management strategies and practices.
  • Current climate science and climate change principles.
You will have the demonstrated ability to:
  • Compile, evaluate, interpret and synthesize relevant information to communicate complex and technical concepts, and produce written and verbal materials, including non-technical reports and presentations for a variety of audiences.
  • Establish and maintain successful working relationships with staff from other areas of the ministry, other ministries, other provincial and federal agencies, and external stakeholders; and
  • Independently assess, adjust and prioritize duties to complete tasks and meet objectives in a continuously changing environment.

This position requires travel including staying overnight in locations away from home.
