Job Description

Faculty/Department VP Research Unit University of Regina Press Employee Group CUPE 2419 CUPE 5791 Job Family N/A Category Casual Number of Vacancies 1 Position SummaryURP seeks a motivated, detail-oriented, and highly organized student to support the senior acquisition editor and managing editor. The Editorial Assistant (EA) will have the following key responsibilities:

  • Screen and review unsolicited manuscripts to ensure proper manuscript submission;
  • Initiate and respond to requests for information from authors;
  • Compose correspondence and maintain related records for new submission;
  • Prepare manuscripts for peer review and prepare transmittal forms;
  • Proofread and edit promotional documents for grammar and factual accuracy;
  • Check references and permission issues;
  • Help prepare documents for Publication Board Meetings
  • Assist managing editor in preparing manuscripts for layout and design;
  • Check printer proofs for errors; and
  • Complete other clerical duties (e.g. photocopy or scan materials; distribute mail; maintain files; process forms; pick up and deliver library materials).
Position Requirements
  • registered in at least two courses at the University of Regina during the Winter 2022 semester
  • 3rd or 4th year student in Humanities preferred
  • excellent writing and communication skills, and attention to detail
  • knowledge, experience or interest in learning about scholarly and trade publishing
  • ability to work independently and as a team
  • ability to work to deadline and under tight timelines
  • software skills are an asset (Microsoft, social media platforms)
