This position reports to the Coordinator of Transit Fleet Maintenance. Duties & ResponsibilitiesSupervise and direct all activities and staff in the parts warehouse. Determines, monitors and maintains the proper parts inventory levels for a wide variety of vehicle parts. Administer weekly fast-moving parts procurement to determine where to source parts, while considering other factors such as vehicle down time and costs. Maintain purchase orders records to ensure orders are delivered and received on time and follow up on with vendors on back orders. Maintain records of parts lists and technical literature relating to all transit equipment. Maintain a strong relationship with the vendors and suppliers. Assist staff at parts counter to provide parts/supplies to technicians when required. Provides direct supervision, leadership, mentoring and coaching of parts person staff with a focus on the provision of guidance, direction and development and formal performance reviews Conducts performance planning for staff (goal setting, review and assessment) and ensures that performance process is complete for all direct reports. Ability to process purchase orders in Oracle Financial. Ability to work with a computerized inventory management system; M5 Fleet Focus or equivalent. Direct the maintenance of ledgers, inventory records, and inventory reports. Direct and assist the taking of physical inventory counts bi annually. Lead team members with the caretaking, cleaning and organization of the parts warehouse. Perform related work as required. Education & ExperienceTypically, the knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position are obtained upon completion of grade twelve (12), supplemented by third level courses in PMAC (Purchasing Management Association of Canada) or possession of an interprovincial red seal Journeyperson Parts certificate; coupled with four (4) years experience in a parts warehouse situation. Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesSignificant knowledge and understanding of inventory management principles.Significant knowledge of receiving, stocking, tagging and issuing supplies in a computerized operation.Significant knowledge of record keeping processes and procedures and maintaining inventories within a computerized inventory management system.Significant knowledge and ability to apply up-to-date accounting functions and parts procurement procedures as required by current purchasing procedures.Thorough knowledge of the general rules and regulations of the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and the City of Regina Occupational Health and Safety Manual.Ability to carry out oral and written instructions effectively.Ability to interpret and adapt technical methods and procedures required in a modern parts environment.Thorough knowledge of the M5 Operating System.Proven proficiency in the operation of a personal computer, using software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.Ability to perform physical labour, including heavy lifting.Ability to deal in a courteous and tactful manner with contacts, whether co-workers, public or clients and maintain effective work relations with other staff.Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.Ability to function effectively in a quality work team environment.Ability to interpret and disseminate information utilizing parts manuals and video display terminals. Working/Other ConditionsMay be required to work varying shifts and rotating weekends. Must possess a valid drivers license. Must possess or be able to obtain a Forklift Operator Certificate.
