What the position entailsAs a Naval Architecture Department team member, you will be involved in various projects, from the initial concept design to classification and functional design. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Developing and coordinating the General Arrangement Plan.
  • Coordinating with all engineering disciplines to ensure optimum, functional, and sustainable vessel design.
  • Verifying applied solutions to ensure compliance with Class Rules, International Conventions, Flag State, and contractual requirements.
  • Preparing and verifying statutory plans including, but not limited to, safety plans, fire control plans, hazardous zone plans, firefighting equipment, and life-saving equipment plans.
  • Preparing and verifying Deck Equipment layouts and Compartment Arrangement drawings, including, but not limited to, Anchor and Mooring Arrangements and Wheelhouse Arrangements.
  • Preparing and verifying outfit drawings and schedules, including, but not limited to, Stair Schedules, Door Schedules and Windowsamp; Portlight Schedules.
  • Developing 3D visualizations.
  • Preparing weight estimates.
  • Being a proactive member of the Design Team and Naval Architecture Department.
  • Collaborating with the Project Manager and Discipline Leads.
  • Completing tasks within a defined schedule and budget.
  • Addressing and responding to Classification and Client comments on the deliverables you prepare or oversee.
  • Providing mentoring support for staff at lower experience levels.
  • Participating in teamworking groups within the company.
  • Fulfilling other responsibilities as assigned.
What you will need to be successful
  • Will hold a minimum qualification of a recognized Bachelor’s degree or equivalent engineering degree in a related field.
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience including coordination of engineering efforts in maritime projects.
  • Applied knowledge of Naval Architecture.
  • Experience in developing General Arrangement, Statutory Plans, Deck Equipment layouts and Outfitting plans.
  • Working knowledge of International Conventions and Codes, and Flag States Regulations associated with statutory safety requirements.
  • Experience working with IACS Classification Society Rules.
  • Practical understanding of Ship Stability, Propulsion systems and Ships Structure.
  • General knowledge of Ships Mechanical and Electrical systems.
  • Good working knowledge of primary computer software programs necessary to complete Position Objectives (i.e. MS Office products, AutoCAD, etc.).
  • Understanding of ship functionality, preferably for a variety of vessel types.
  • Understanding of ship building process.
  • Overall competency would be considered Applied, Working, or Developed in their discipline.
