Job Description

Sawmill SuperintendentDownie Timber Ltd., a division of Gorman Group of Companies, located in Revelstoke, BC, is a lumber planer/reman plant focused on producing high quality products for the market. We continue to reinvest in state-of-the-art technology, allowing us to provide our customers with consistent supply of quality products.As a growing operation, we have an immediate full-time opening within our Downie team for a Sawmill Superintendent reporting to the Plant Manager. The Sawmill Superintendent (SS) has direct oversight on adequate crewing, safety, employee relations and production and planning for his/her area always. The incumbent ensures high quality and efficient production and processes to make sure customer demands are met. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual with excellent organizational and communication skills.KEY SKILLS of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Provide strong and effective leadership, direction and development opportunities to front line supervisory staff.
  • Plan, organize and coordinate weekly scheduling of sawmill employees.
  • Achieve consistent safety, environmental, operational, quality and financial objectives.
  • Maximize and optimize production performance capability through technology and best work practices for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure standards for housekeeping are maintained.
  • Budgeting, forecasting and cost control within departmental scope.
  • Capital planning and implementation of capital projects.
  • Strong business improvement and performance management skills.
  • Effective communicator with excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Post-secondary education in wood products, engineering, business management or forestry would be an asset.
  • Five (5) plus years’ experience in a related role in a wood products manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to work in and maintain a highly functional team environment.
  • Proven success in leadership
