  • Model outside plant (OSP) fibre optic networks and facilities using GIS and Inventory Management Systems
  • Work with various datasets, including externally supplied GIS data, and internally maintained datasets, as well as Engineering designs and specifications
  • Maintain data quality by auditing and ensuring data is accurate, relevant, complete, and consistent
  • Perform data analysis and prepare reports and/or digital maps to support various business functions
  • Prepare diagrams, data exports, and other documents using GIS and other tools
  • Facilitate and manage fibre optic strands reservations for new network circuit designs
  • Review and action incoming locate requests, new utility proposals (PUCC), and markup requests
  • Assist our network operations centre (NOC) and field technicians in troubleshooting fibre network issues. Including coordinating fibre cable repairs when applicable. On-call rotation.
  • Prepare, organize and maintaining department records, documentation, procedures
  • Train and provide support to end users and staff on processes and information systems
  • Assist in the evaluation of new software systems
  • Perform other duties as required

Selection CriteriaEssential Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of computer technology and Information Systems (Geographic Information Systems, Relational Database Systems)
  • Knowledge of mathematics, mapping principles, geography, and geographic data analysis
  • Good knowledge of database technology related to GIS in order to prepare source documents for importing/exporting to computer systems
  • Knowledge of OSP components including their purpose, physical attributes, and limitations
  • Familiar with OSP construction and maintenance activities
  • Familiar with and understands utility network drawings and designs
  • General knowledge of telecom technologies, services, and their components
  • Good knowledge of English to effectively communicate with staff, clients, suppliers and government agencies
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Grade 12 plus up to one year further concentrated study
Essential Experience:
  • Working GIS experience with, but not limited to; ESRI ArcGIS, ESRI ArcMap, Schneider ArcFM Fiber Manager
  • Proficient in Excel and for the purpose of analyzing, preparing data for download/upload to computer systems
  • Proven organizational, time management, analytical, listening, verbal and written communications skills
  • A period of 5 years of related working experience. Experience with commercial telecommunication networks is preferable
