Job Description

Position Type: AuxiliaryDepartment: Community SportNumber of Positions Available: MultipleThe Richmond Olympic Oval is seeking a passionate individual with a love of skating and a sound coaching background. This position is focused on helping individuals Ages 3 to 12 develop fundamental skating skills in a fun and safe environment. This position is specific to Winter Programs , with the possibly for assisting with additional seasonal programs.Your core responsibilities include,Communicate with parents and provide students with feedbackEnsure general program readiness including equipment lists, lesson plans, games and activities for a range of abilitiesImplement a variety of techniques for students to develop basic fundamental skating skillsResponsible for the safety and progressive instruction of Learn to Skate programs based on the objectives of the specific programs as well as Long Term Athlete Development Model/Sport for LifeCommunicate effectively with the Sport Programmer regarding program needs and improvementsEvaluate athlete abilities and maintain records of the skills of skatersCompliant with program policies and procedures (attendance, report cards, radios, first aid, etc)The qualifications and skills you bring to this role include,A love of children!Exceptional customer service interactionsBackground and knowledge in skating is required. Additional knowledge in Hockey or Figure Skating is an assetExperience delivering high quality, progressive skating instruction to athletes ages 3 to 12 is preferredAbility to assess and evaluate athlete’s fundamental movement skills and as well as specific skating skillsExcellent communication skills, both verbal and writtenOptimistic, passionate and personableResponsible and dependableMust be able to successfully complete a criminal record checkValid standard First Aid Certificate is requiredCompletion of, or in progress of completing the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) is an assetMust be able to submit proof of vaccination against COVID-19 (2 doses) as a condition of employment.Work Hours: Must be available for the following starting in January:Saturdays 10:00am-2:00pmCompensation range: $18.35 to $23.75 (hourly rate is based on qualifications and experience)Perks: Our workplace culture embraces People, Excellence, Leadership, Team and Innovation.Access to 20,000sq ft fitness centre with top class facilities, over 100 pieces of strength and cardio equipment, 4-storey climbing wall, YYoga studio*, endless fitness classes, Olympic sized ice rinks and the Richmond Olympic Experience (ROX) museum (restrictions may apply).12% in lieu of benefits on top of your hourly rate.Collaborative team environment.Opportunity to work in various auxiliary positions at the Richmond Olympic Oval to grow your knowledge and experience.The Richmond Olympic Oval is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from all groups.
