Job Description

Reporting to the Superintendent, the role of the Warehouse Supervisor is to plan, coordinate and ensure the safe, efficient execution of the day-to-day loading, unloading and storage at our terminal. This includes ensuring optimal scheduling of labour to meet the daily plan, coordinating inbound drayage, and rail at the loading dock while engaging all 3rd party carriers to ensure timely and cost-effective export delivery. The Warehouse Supervisor is the floor manager and therefore assumes the front-line role in conflict resolution and managing changes in the daily plan.Who are weCoast 2000 Terminals is the leading and largest integrated logistics facility in Western Canada.   • Directly responsible for the safety of staff, customers, vendors and other stakeholders in the warehouse – Communicates and enforces all company safety policies and address concerns as necessary. Corrects unsafe acts as they arise and implements measures to mitigate or eliminate further risks. Reports all incidents in a timely fashion.
  • Performs physical check of rail line to identify what cars are on site and confirms car locations in yard. Verifies CN reports matches actual placement; adjusts reports and plans accordingly - advises Customer Service Representative.
  • Monitors inbound rail volumes through CN and is responsible for ordering and releasing cars as required to meet costumers needs and eliminate demurrage risk
  • Plans daily labor requirements (Pulp/Rail/Lumber) and provides loading plans to crews in order achieve maximum efficiency and throughput. Ensures all potential revenue streams are accounted.
  • Reviews previous days’ time clock and reconciles with plan. Provides payroll with detailed daily labor recap within each job function –accurately assigning labour hours for reporting as well as approves employee’s daily hours.
  • Effectively plans and organizes utilization of the warehouse and lumber yard and ensures efficient flow and rotation of our customers products. Performs inventory counts as required.
  • Works directly with the Superintendent to plan, draft and implement safe operating procedures specific to Warehouse as well as works with the foremen on a day to day basis to ensure all safe operating procedures are communicated followed.
  • Provides leadership in the Warehouse. Administers both confirming and corrective feedback – including escalated discipline to all Warehouse staff
  • Provides weekly tool box meetings and daily crew talks with staff, to discuss safety and operational issues across the organization.
  • Plans and prepares all paperwork for export and internal reporting. Ensures accuracy and, pays strict attention to ERD’s while coordinating loading schedule with Logistics Supervisors and Customer Service Representatives.
  • Ensures constant communication with trucking companies and the Logistics Supervisor to react to ongoing changes and effectively execute Coast’s core services with optimal efficiency.
  • Performs rail crew audits by evaluating and observing proficiencies of crews
  • Participates in quarterly meetings as required with customers
  • Provides coverage for the Customer Service Representatives as required
  • All other duties as required
You have:
  • Minimum 4 years experience working in a lumber warehouse or lumber reload facility
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a supervisory role
  • Post secondary education in a related field is considered an asset
  • Strong customer service skills with an eye for process efficiency, prioritize and multitask
  • Strong understanding of containerized exports, container terminals and logistics
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
