Job Description

Overview:Do you enjoy building relationships and working collaboratively in a team environment with both internal and external stakeholders Are you a problem solver As someone with excellent communication skills and attention to detail, you will thrive in our fast-paced and agile environment.Your opportunityDillon’s Community & Environment group is looking for a Waste Auditor to participate in a week-long waste audit in Salmon Arm from July 12th – 16th. There will be approximately 35 hours of work for $21.06/hour. Transportation, accommodations (near the Shuswap Lake!) and a daily meal stipend will be provided.Responsibilities:What your day will look likeField Work (100%)Work will take place on the landfill.Tasks include sampling, sorting, and weighing garbage from incoming trucks in order to better understand material composition.Workdays will be 5 hours on transportation day (on the 12th and 16th) the other days would be approximately 8 hours.All training will be provided. The data collected during these reports is used to create a waste composition profile for the landfill which provides insight for future waste diversion and recycling programs.Future work on waste composition studies may be available later in summer 2021 and beyond, as well as occasional fieldwork on other waste projects with Dillon.COVID considerations:Transportation will likely be with one other person in a masked and socially-distanced vehicle (i.e. one person in front and one in back).Auditor will be staying in their own single hotel room and all work will be outdoors and socially distanced.There will be three folks on-site, and the work will be largely outdoors (working on a landfill site).Qualifications:Candidates should have an interest in sustainability or waste management.Be physically able to lift up to 40 lb, be willing and able to perform physical labour in warm weather, and be able to work safely and in a team environment.Candidates must provide their own CSA-approved steel-toed boots.Professional and friendly attitude.Available to attend one virtual training session (paid).Experience:Strong work ethic and self-starter, able to effectively manage multiple priorities, and adapt to change within a fast-paced environment.Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while exercising judgment and a high level of professionalism.Ability to work safely and follow instructions.Why choose DillonDillon is powered by people who are technically proficient, passionate about socially important projects, and motivated to deliver superior, tangible results.
