What you will do: Reporting to the Executive Chef, the successful candidate will prepare meals for residents to meet established expectations of quality and service excellence. Meals are cooked and provided for all three service lines at Parkland Riverview including Hospitality (Royal Court), Assisted Living (Canterbury Hall) and Long-term Care (Monarch Hall).How you will do it:
  • Pans and prepares meals according to established standards, procedures, recipes and menus.
  • Ensures meals are attractive, the correct temperature and portion size, and that service is timely.
  • Assists with preparation of food for special functions e.g. catering, theme dinners to ensure service meets established standards.
  • Reports any recipe shortages, discrepancies or quality issues to the Executive Chef or supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Cleans and sanitizes cooking station daily; maintains cleanliness of kitchen equipment such as ovens, kettles, mixers or others according to legislative and organizational standards.
  • Ensures that dress code and appearance are in compliance with the facility policy.
  • Follows disposal procedures according to established waste management guidelines for organics, paper, plastics, cans/bottles, non-recyclable material, etc.
  • Assists in other areas of the kitchen as required.
  • Promotes safety by continuously working safely, including, but not limited to, identifying and reporting hazards and following safe work practices and procedures.
The must haves:
  • High School diploma or equivalent education;
  • Minimum one year of experience;
  • Ability to read & follow detailed recipes/instructions required;
  • Basic food safety training or other recognized food safety certification;
  • Demonstrated experience working and communicating with internal and external customers to meet their needs in a polite, courteous, and cooperative manner.
Supplemental Qualifications considered an asset:
  • First Aid and CPR certification;
  • Red seal journeyman papers, optional;
  • Previous experience in large quantity food preparation and working with the elderly in long-term care or a seniors independent living environment.
