Job Description

The Department of Health is seeking interest from suitably qualified General Surgeons sub-specialising in Colorectal Surgery (CRS) for a Staff Specialist vacancy.The Royal Hobart Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital for Tasmania, and the principal teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania Medical School. The Hospital provides most specialist medical services for the region or state. This role has been established to improve the delivery of General Surgical services to patients and assist in the co-ordination and training of surgical Resident Medical Officers (RMOs) and Registrars.Applicants should have a Fellowship in General Surgery and additional training and experience in CRS. Part of the role involves managing acute / emergency cases as part of the Department of General Surgery’s Emergency Surgical Unit (ESU). There are also opportunities to be involved with administrative, teaching and research activities.SalaryA remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant/s dependent on clinical experience and seniority.Period of employmentThe engagement is permanent full-time day work (with on-call), working 76 hours per fortnight.In the role of Staff Specialist – General Surgery you would:

• Provide quality specialist and sub-specialty services in General Surgery and CRS.
• Provide inpatient and outpatient care to public and private patients of the Royal Hobart Hospital in CRS and General Surgery.
• Be involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
• Be actively involved in research.
• Undertake quality improvement and administrative activities
