Job Description

Who we needOur downtown client, a rapidly growing, private equity-backed organization, is looking for a Payroll Specialist. You will ensure accurate and timely payroll transactions, perform data analysis and contribute to the overall efficiency and compliance of the payroll function. You will be critical in maintaining accurate payroll records, resolving issues, and providing valuable insights to optimize payroll processes.This hybrid role requires 2 days of on-site work each week, with Wednesdays as a mandatory in-office day.What’s in it for youYou will have the opportunity to take on the challenge of processing three different payroll structures (salary, hourly, and deliverable-based) and to be part of a new project rolling out a payroll system to support their US-based workforce.   • Assist in processing the end-to-end payroll. You will enter data, perform calculations and reconciliations, verify time and attendance records, make salary adjustments, calculate and apply bonuses and commissions, process payments, and complete other payroll-related inputs. You will ensure accurate and timely payroll disbursements, meet scheduled pay dates, and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Collaborate. You will work with the People team to maintain accurate employee data and ensure its confidentiality and security. You will prioritize and respond to employee inquiries related to payroll, taxes, and deductions in a courteous and timely manner.
  • Report. You will generate regular and ad hoc payroll reports, review accuracy, and identify any discrepancies. You will analyze payroll data to identify patterns, trends, and potential issues, providing insights and recommendations to management.
  • Stay up to date. You will keep abreast of federal, provincial, state, and labour legislation, ensure payroll practices and processes are compliant, and prepare and submit payroll tax reports and filings to government agencies quarterly and annually.
You have:
  • The experience. You have experience processing Canadian and US payrolls and entering and analyzing data. You understand payroll laws, tax regulations, and labour legislation in Canada and the US. Or you may have exclusively worked with one country or the other and can quickly come up to speed. You can pick up software and systems quickly and may have previous experience with Dayforce. You apply the highest level of discretion in handling confidential employee information and maintaining data security. Ideally, you have or are working towards your Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) certification from the National Payroll Institute (Canada).
